Why Paul, do you have an ear piercing planned for the weekend? :lol:

Ya know, I'm not sure.

I know the key & hanky code, though (VERY late '70's- EARLY 80's).

Left= Top (Dominant)
Right= Bottom (Submissive)

Remember the Village People..."Leather, leather baby...levi's and KEYS ON THE LEFT NOW, ALLRIGHT!!!! (A TOP!!!!)

Most guys seem to have it (if just one ear is pierced--lotsa guys today have BOTH done) on the left. BUT I COULD BE WRONG!!! :roll:

I believe the right side is for gays and the left side is for straights.

Myself I prefer a nipple ring. Ouch.

So that's what the line in the song is! I've been wondering what they were saying since I first heard it.

I always thought the boys were singing "on the left now OR right," to suggest they could be versatile.

But you know what it means when a guy says he's "versatile" anyway: BOTTOM!

Btw: When I got my ear pierced oh, so many years ago (early '80s), I asked the girl at Piercing Pagoda (really!) what either ear meant, and she told me that the left ear was "gay" and the right ear was "drug dealer." I told her "left--definitely."

Years later when I had my nipple pierced, I decided to have my right nipple done, just so all my jewelry wouldn't be on the left side of my body.

Well, I didn't see Jeff's answer before my previous post. Which one should I go with?
Oh, BTW Marky, I would have done the hanky thing before I would do earrings. I think I would look silly.

Oh Jeffy,

Ya mean I've been hearing that line incorrectly for all these years?

I guess I wanted my Village Person with his keys on the "Left". Wishful thinking? :roll:

Of course, the lyrics aren't on the LP. Were the lyrics to V.P. songs printed anywhere? A website, perhaps?

I guess it would make sense for it to be "left now OR RIGHT" so as NOT to be exclusionary. Big Ole Bottom Girls lived in "San Francisco" too!!!!! :lol:

That surprises me to hear that, Paul. It seems like most straight guys (Harrison Ford, for gawd's sake) have earrings nowadays.

Even Ed Bradley, the Black correspondent on "60 Minutes". And he's OVER 60.

Funny you should mention Ed Bradley. He is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. I was so used to seeing him without the earring that it looked and still looks strange to me when I see him on 60 minutes. He's interviewing and I keep looking for or at that earring trying to figure out, is he making a straight fashion statement or proclaiming his exit out of the closet.

Be careful, Paul. What side is gay or straight can also depend on what side of the Atlantic you're on. (Can we get some input from our European bretheren, please?)

I remember Farrah Fawcett giving Ryan O'Neal the blues in a movie for wearing his earring on the "gay" side. If my memory is correct, he had it in his right ear. That confused me because in the good old USA, "gay" side was left side. I don't think anybody gives a crap now that men have them in both ears.

Stick with the hankies but, again, watchout for those colors.

Thanks Nicky. Too much ambiguity with earrings. I prefer to be more up front. That's probably why I'd have been a hanky guy

Dear Friends!
Once upon a time in the 70ies the earring
was a thing to recognice gays or not...
In Europe you have to wear it right, to be
gay...in the U.S. left.
Nowadays everyone¥s pierced and I think it¥s
not necessary anymore to be recogniced...
but silly people are also existing today.
Cosmic Love & Kisses From SIRIUS & DARKTUNES
P.S.: I had my earrings on both sides...

I recently watched a Beavis & Butthead cartoon where Beavis & Butthead pierced their left ears themselves and did a poor job obviously because they are SO DUMB!!! Anyhow they go into the jewelery shop to get buy some earrings and the lady says something like "You guys should think about piercing the right ear" and whispers to them explaining that the left side was the gay side and Beavis & Butthead went "ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! !!!!".

Beavis & Butthead are a barrel full of laughs for their total stupidity. I LOVE the "Prank Phone Call" episode where they look through the phone book and come across Harry Sacz and Butthead goes "huhhuh Hairy Sack, let's give this dude a call" and they take the phone to the toilet and call him up and flush the dunny and Beavis goes "Arrhh arrhh YOU SUCK!!!". Harry boils with anger and gets a call id machine and gets Beavis & Buttheads phone number and calls them posing as a pizza man saying they won a pizza and asked for their address, Butthead gives Stuarts address. Then Harry goes to Stuart's house grabs Stuart's dad, takes him to the bathroom, flushes his head down the dunnycan and shoves the mobile phone up his arse. And when Stuart's dad was in the ambulance the mobile phone rings while stuck in his arse and he goes "OWWWLLLL!!! OWWWLLL!!! Could somebody get that, it could be the office". And then Beavis and Butthead ring Harry up again and flush the dunny. That's one of my favourite Beavis & Butthead episodes.
