The 70's had bellbottoms and platform shoes.
The 80's had big hair.
What were some of the fashion fads of the 90's that you wouldn't be caught dead wearing today?

The whole grunge thing. Puke plaid shirts, unkempt hair, heroin-chic... man, it's a good thing that's all gone by the wayside. Oh wait....

Hi NRG,
my answer to your question: TATOOS and PIERCINGS - a 90's trend that I don't like at all.

Peace,

Were bumbags a 80's or early 90's thing? Some people still wear them here in the Baltimore of Finland. And how about those little mobile phone container bags hanging from people's belts for that Totally Wired look...

I think the clothes of the 90's were more or less a rehash of the sterotypical outfits that supposedly "defined" the 70's. Even if bell-bottom pants and platform shoes are now pretty much a staple, how come we didn't see cornrowed and "feather" hair styles come back, knee-high high-heeled boots with blue jeans rolled in a big cuff at the top, earth shoes, plaid pants, velour pullovers, three-pieced suits. These styles were just as much the 70's as what passes off as the "retro" stuff today.

The Billy Ray Cyrus "Mullet" hairdo. Still Hot with the Jerry Springer crowd, though.

Oh, and judging by the Springer crowd, missing several front teeth is hot too.

But, most definitely TATTOOS & PIERCINGS. The Urban Primitive look. Will this look seem as dated in a few years as John Travolta in his white polyester suit striking that pose from "SNF"? I wonder.

AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!!!!!!!!
I can't choose what is worse, the whole grung thing or super baggy hip-hop style elephant sized jeans with designer name tags dangling from every piece of clothing!!!! In the early 90's girls from the urban areas wanted to dress like the guys which was another sick trend!! I couldn't tell the boys from the girls.

Basically, the 90's don't really have a look of its own (except for hip-hop and grunge which I didn't find fashionable). Designers from here and abroad have ran out of ideas so they decided to turn back the hands of time for inspirations. Everything we saw was a blend of 60's, 70's and 80's fashions. Today in NYC I see people in styles from all decades in the street ranging from:

60's hippie/psychedelic/Angela Davis
70's white polyester John Travolta suits
Superfly leather suits/coats
80's Cyndi lauper/Billy Idol/Prince getups
Preppie conservative
90's Snoop Dog/DMX gangsta styles
