Default Sandra Dee--Dead

The actress--not our serial poster from "Manchester, England, England, across the Atlantic sea!!!" .

Whenever I see the initials SD, I think of Sandra Dee--so I nicknamed "Steely Dan", Sandra Dee. When "Steely Dan" somehow couldn't post anymore using that name--he swtched to Bona Boy (no one liked that one, apparently)...so he recently was incarnated as SandraDee.

Then the Real Miss Dee Dies!!!! I saw her on film clips this weekend on the telly....and realized she must have died.

Sandra Dee was my passion before Miss Ross captured my heart. :D

She was a big star in the late Fifties-early Sixties; then just faded away into alcoholism and anorexia. Soooooo saaaaad.

Kate Bosworth plays her in the Bobby Darin biopic "Beyond The Sea"; Kevin Spacey annoys me --so I haven't seen it yet.

I could kick myself for not going to see her do "Love Letters" with former co-star John Saxon back in the late Eighties in Bev Hills. I saw Gena Rowlands & Ben Gazzara--BUT I shoulda gone back to see Sandy.

Sandra Dee was "perky" ; a teenage Doris Day, back when that was considered the Ideal.

I'd recommend "Imitation Of Life"---probably the best of her movies. "A Summer Place" is not bad either.

She is rather gushy--but I always thought she was really cute.

"Imitation Of Life" is a big ole soap opera about a white woman (Lana Turner) and her loyal maid, a black woman (Juanita Moore) and their troubles with their daughters (Sandra Dee & Susan Kohner).

I think Dee falls in love with mama's boyfriend (John Gavin); Kohner tries to "pass" for white; melodrama ensues.

Both Moore & Kohner were nominated for Supporting Actress Oscars. They didn't win.

Film was directed by auteur Douglas Sirk ("Written On the Wind," "Magnificent Obsession")...and is a big fave of the GAYS. (for the drama, the camp & the clothes!!!) :P

going off topic i was in england a couple of weeks ago and noticed something, the growing space music stores are giving to music and film d.vd's. virgin in liverpool the whole of the downstairs is now d.v.d and you have to climb the stairs for c.ds :-? i suppose its due to music downloads good or bad the selection on d.v.d is incredible,we complain theres not enough disco stuff available but i think its got to be on the way 8) i did find something ive been looking for a d.v.d of janet jacksons including 'when i think of you'[which i have on video and i think is amazing] but it was an import and it was $50 :o ....pass !!

I don't know what u mean DD, 'canal street cruiser' indeed! :o You'd never catch me cruising on canal street; these days I do all my cruising behind Piccadilly train station.

The spirit of Sandra Dee lives on at Discomusic.com! I've always seen myself as a Doris Day type (Doris Gay? :-? )

That brilliant film from a couple of years ago with Julianne Moore & Dennis Quaid as her closeted gay husband, the title escapes me now, was a tribute to Douglas Sirk if I'm not mistaken? I remember reading that his films were very melodramatic & OTT.

Yeah, that was "Far From Heaven"; .....melodramatic and OOT..usually the leading man is GAY (ROCK HUDSON!!!); the producer of all those Sirk/Universal epics was big ole QUEEN Ross Hunter.

That's the one! I really enjoyed that film, it reminded of so many 50s films with the repressed sexuality & 'fraught' atmosphere. I expected Montgomery Clift to walk on at any minute!

The "inside" joke was to have the Husband realize he was "Gay" cause the Husband in most of those Fifties films was often played by GAY actors (Rock, George Nader, Jeff Chandler (Esther Williams said he was a drag queen!!!), Tab Hunter) pretending to be "Straight"
