Default Last House On Dead End Street

Jussi, have you seen this 1970's horror film that was filmed in Oneonta in upstate N.Y.

I haven't seen it but heard it is very gory. Someone gets their arms severed with a saw. Yuck.

NRG, let me jump in here before Mighty Jussi...I've seen this film under the alternate title THE CUCKOO CLOCKS OF HELL. :o No, I'm not making that title up.

This film has been the subject of legend, with tales of 3-hour versions originally existing, and then savaged by censors. The version I saw was less than 90 minutes long, and rather incoherent. However, if a 70's film about snuff-film makers committing acts of so-so gory murder is your thing, check it out. What disturbed me about the film was the tone of it rather than the content, just as the inept LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT disturbed me.

I bought "Last house on the left" last year because of the director's name and fame (??), not knowing about about the reputation of the movie. I watched it and threw it away, it was that disgusting (and I'm not that easy offended, you know).

A few months ago, the full, uncensored version was shown on Belgian television. Are times a-changing??? I discovered that that movie is/was forbidden in the UK.

Video, Wes Craven now makes the claim that he had no idea what he was doing when he made LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT...it shows on the screen. :D

Supposedly the truly uncut version of LHOTL just doesn't exist...there was a great deal of excised footage that is just lost forever. The "uncut" version that IFC (cable station) showed last year isn't even close to uncut.

I was reading a review of "Dead End" on another site and it mentioned something about a scene with a deer hoof. Anyone care to elaborate?

A more vicious and definitely more stylish take on Bergman's VIRGIN SPRING/JuNGFRUSKALLAN than the rather drab LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT is now out on region 1 dvd for your delectation: ULTIMO TRENO DELLA NOTTE / THE LATE NIGHT TRAINS - from Italy, where else. This stars the wildly genrehopping Macha Magal so you get some arthouse pretention as well.

A lost scene in "Dead End" concerning apparent misuse of a deer hoof - I have no idea and frankly, thogh these films still revive well under the right mood that film was never a favourite, not being gritty enough to pop out any fillings of my teeth, a bit of an eyesore really. So many of those "legendary" gore opuses now seem a thing of the past, relics from an era of the Fangoria magazine and cons jammed with people wearing black only. Can't wait for the next con...
