This Surprising World Cup

Hi! Is this World Cup full of surprises or what? France, Uruguay, and Argentina are out. Sorry Nano...

You look at them and almost every group looks upside down from what logic would seem to indicate. Senegal in the second round? South Korea, the U.S. and Japan probably making it to the second round?

I guess our beautiful sport is no longer dominated by European and South American teams only. The gap between the "strong" and the "weak" is narrowing more and more as years go by. I guess if this keeps going on we may live to see a final between an African and an Asian country, or perhaps between the U.S. and my native Venezuela!

The most important thing is that this improvement shows football is in great shape despite the competition from other sports, mainly basketball and the NBA, and issues such as hooliganism and alleged corruption inside FIFA. The NBA will prove to be nothing more than a fad supported by a ton of money, and the Michael Jordan and the "In Your Face" image. The FIFA problems will be resolved and corrected if necessary, and we will continue to enjoy the most beautiful and exciting sport in the world.
