The crappy officiating continues: Ronaldinho is red-carded for God-knows-what, and England is denied a couple of free kick/penalty kick opportunities. I really hate the officiating in this Cup.
On the plus side, I am happy at the way the young players are developing: Ronaldinho, Juninho, Kaka. etc.

Well, the U.S. team's run in the World Cup has come to an end. As you probably know by now, they lost to Germany 1-0. From what little I saw of the game, the USA had many scoring chances but failed to get the ball into the net. Unfortunately, I saw the German goal, which I believe was on a penalty kick. The U.S. team have nothing to be ashamed of. They did much better in this World Cup than anyone thought they would.

Outsider, I saw the match and I think U.S. deserved to win the game! Saddly, the referee did not see one german player touching the ball with the left hand, inside the penalty area. Then U.S. could be equalize the game and play more easy from that moment on. Sorry......I'm supporting you on this game.

Now, It's all up to Brazil!

I sure wish they had.

I didn't even notice that. The referee should have, though.

Thanks. While I'm disappointed about the outcome, I won't get too upset about it. Those things happen.

I would say they are the team to beat.

Unbelievable - that decision in the Germany-US game. Not only should it have been a penalty, but a red card as well. I think Germany can think themselves very fortunate to get away with that one!

But we all need a little luck from time to time, don't we?

For example, German fans and English fans still debate to this day whether England's 3rd goal v Germany in the 1966 World Cup Final actually went over the line. That was our bit of luck ...

Looking forward to Spain / Korea tommorow. With that FANTASTIC support that the Koreans have from their crowd, it's almost like having an extra man on the pitch ...

Congratulations, Blax! Seems Brazil is on their way to the fifth Cup. Sadly, Senegal lost against the Turks (I would have liked to see them against Roberto Carlos).
Hey jazz_pilgrim: did I miss something or you have not commented on the result of the Brazil vs. England game? Come on, you can do it, pal! By the way, you can describe a little that Trafalgar Square at the end of the match, you know, the stares, filth words, samba dance or whatever that happened. I did when it was my turn, because like Ernest Hemingway said, "grace under pressure" is a must condition to be a real man!
And don't blame poor Seaman, that Ronaldinho kick was just too much. Anyway, it seems The Queen knew very well how to defend herself, but not so well how to attack! If our coach would have had that in mind last week...
Didn't see Spain but it seems the referee was the star again. Spain being Spain, it was the only case in which the loser team didn't left lacrimous or contrite, but yelling at the reef and the opposite team! It's LA IRA GALLEGA, probably Blax understands this (we knew very well).
Now, don't lose sight on a possible final match "Turks vs. Korea"!!!

We've got large Turkish community here in Belgium, and today they have been celebrating their victory against Senegal since this afternoon (2 p.m) by driving around town, ringing their carhorns, cheering to the crowd, waving their flag.
And now its evening (10 p.m.) and their still riding around! And the cheering is even louder!
They seem to be very very very very very happy!

Also, i don't think the Korans should have won against the Spanish. Those 2 dissaproved goals by Spain were 2 perfect goals. That Refferee made some bad judgements! I think he was make decisions in favor of the organising country (korea).
It was NOT FAIR!

Looks like FIFA is starting to implode with all the finger-pointing about the bad officiating. I'm glad that they are at least acknowledging how crappy the referees and referee assistants have been.
I'm not rooting for Germany (BRASIL all the way!) but I do hope that they can get a fair shake against South Korea.
BTW, South Korean fans have been polite and courtly to everyone visiting so far. I wonder what will happen if South Korea loses a game on a controversial call? This Goddess thinks that the South Korean riot police will be putting in overtime duity.....

Korea vs. Spain:
What a shame!!! I'm looking for that FIFA "Fair Play bullshit" until now!!! :???:
Where is the fair play on that???? Well.....saddly...that things happen.

About the Turkish, well.....I was supporting Senegal on that game. Now, I think it is a tough game. They are very motivated. Tough game to Brazil!! Let's see on wednesday.

Peace.

Senegal was the Cool Runnings of the World Cup

with an African Joy of playing that hasn't been resembled since Cameroon in ITaly 90

Just as Cameroon they beat the reigning world cup holders in the first game.

They were however stopped by a triffling Turkey

Whose whole style of Football is relient on provoking the opposistion team

and trying to get the opposition of their game

I hope Brazil once again gets the upper hand
against Turkey

and I even hope that the Officals will rule somethings against Turkey so they will get back what was coming their way

I felt a sickness in my stomach when I saw a car driving around and a kid in the backseat waving that dispecable flag

In answer to your question, Nano, I posted a reaction by mistake under the thread ñ ìWhat is the most important ñ football or music?î

I also sent Blaxman et al a private e-mail on their Senhores do Groove website. I said "May I be the first to congratulate you..". Blax returned the compliment by saying I was a gentleman (true!!)

Basically I congratulated his Brazil team on a great and deserved victory. I donít blame Seaman - it was a fantastic Ronaldinho kick, like you said. England played throughout the World Cup as a team, and it would be unfair to pick out an individual to blameÖ We just lost to a better team. Some of the football that the Brazilians played was beautiful to watch!!

As you can imagine, I was gutted (very sad). We watched it at work, and it was very quiet in the office that day. One of the girls was in tears. I was in London later during the day, and the atmosphere was quiet and subdued ñ all the flags were coming down. But there was no trouble that night in the bars and pubs, thank God. I was also relieved that the fans in Japan behaved perfectly this time, as well. I think we all took it very well (like you said in your qoute from Hemmingway). I always refer to my favourite poem - Rudyard Kipling and "If" - when feeling down. It always inspires me!!

Overall I am pleased with Englandís progress in the World Cup. But I think we came tantalising close to going all the way, and therefore feel a little disappointed. The most depressing thing about the World Cup? ñDespite beating them 5-1 in qualifying, and topping the qualifying group, the Germans are still there, as usual, in the last 4. I have to admire their staying power!!!

Jazz, I repeat. You're are gentleman!

And I'm glad you're not alone on this, I saw on TV the english supporters cheering the english team on their arrival in London. A real civilized behavior.

Peace.

The cherred because they knew that they were a inferior team to Brazil.
They knew that they never even had a chance against Brazil.
I mean Brazil least technical player
Gilberto Silva has a better technique
then Englands biggest Star Beckham
