Linda is currently performing in the San Francisco area where she is well-loved, and will certainly be well received. I highly doubt there will be any ruckus-causing nutcases in the audience, if there was ever any truth to that original story.

Tonight: Livermore
Friday: Saratoga
Saturday: San Rafael

Go see the show!

First off, Paul ...you're a big strapping HOMO. Just admit it.

Second, I too read Linda's account of the incident in the LA Times yesterday. I think the manager of the BANKRUPT Aladdin Hotel was seeking to get their name in the papers. And curry favor with RIGHT WING conventions. Bring us your John Birch Society & Pro Life conventions....we threw out that pinko commie, remember????

Unfortunately in that report Linda left out a comment that really shows her true colors, and that of her two faced left wing millionaire supporting her.

“It is a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is Republican or Fundamental Christians. It can cloud my judgment, I rather not know”

And yet she’s compel to spew out her endorsement of an Ultra-leftwing propagandist that not even the Kerry campaign, the most liberal presidential ticket ever, wants any association with… They are all a bunch of millionaire cynics pushing their vision of perfect Utopia on the unsuspecting masses. Of course if the experiment fails they can always count on their millions and to hell with everyone else.

I know is hard to find the facts through all the clutter of left wing spinsters’ propaganda out there, especially in Europe, but if you care to invest the time to better understand what happened the facts are easily available for any one to research.

Fact: A group of independent Newspapers including some of the most Liberal in the USA like the Miami Herald, conducted an independent re-count after the 2000 election of Florida vote and confirmed that the Bush campaign won the Florida State vote fair and square, regardless of any court decisions, they even presented the New President in the White House a commemorative plaque with the re-count findings.

Hmmmm...loks like we've got some spinning goin' on here too.

First off, Linda's comment was about a Republican performer not audience members. She said it could be distracting to know a performer's political affiliation when going to their concert. She said she'd prefer not to know. But she says she makes her own political statement at the very end of the show just before "Desperado" to stir the audience to think.

As far as millionarie fatcats go, have ya seen the footage of GW Bush's speech at a fundraiser where he addresses the assembled as "the Haves" and the "Have Mores"; I call you my base." ?(chuckle, chuckle, chuckle).

Teresa Heinz-Kerry summed this money matter up aptly on "60 Minutes" when asked if her billions would unduly influence the election; she said the Republicans had no trouble taking her money when she was married to a Republican--the late Senator Heinz. Now it's somehow wrong????

Verbatim!

"My career has befuddled other people, and it's befuddled me," admitted Ronstadt, 58, who finds her fans are polarized by her nightly on-stage salute to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.
"I've been dedicating a song to him – I think he's a great patriot – and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she said.

"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."

Mixmachine,

I read Miss Ronstadt's quote in the LA Times yesterday. I remember thinking "Jeez, that's just how I feel". Maybe I misread it??? I will get it tonight and read it again. But the quote you provide makes no sense. Why would she care about the religious beliefs of other audience members at a concert she's attending? The problem was knowing you were seeing a act you liked--say some country singer--then finding out they were ultra-right wing. She said that new knowledge can tend to negatively color your perception of them. I totally understand. Certain singing acts and actors who suck up to the Right Wing give me the creeps when I see them now that I know their politics. James Woods is one. I wonder " how can you think that way?" :o

To each his own. But the point of her quote I thought was that it's better not to know a performer's politics because knowing the truth may cause you to have a bias against them. I think that's very true and reasonable. I'm sure it's the same on the Right. You all don't much care for Barbra Streisand now, do ya?

Significant point of clarification Mixmachine. I remember reading the results of the newspaper recounts. Bottom line was, if Gore got the narrow regional recounts he wanted, shrub would have won the count. If as the shrub team had argued, the entire state get recounted, they would have lost and Gore won.
This of course ignored issues like thousands of people, disproportionately Black, who were not allowed to vote because the were falsely put on a felons list. I heard talk show host Randi Rhodes (who is white) talk about seeing her former husband (who is Black) turned away when they went to vote in 2000. She said they both registered at the same time and when that happened then heard later in the day what was happening in the state, she knew the fix was in!
Check out Greg Palast. Our friends in Europe may be more familiar with his work. His documentary shown in Europe but blacklisted in the states reveals the 2000 shenanigans by the banana Republicans. Sorry for that broad swipe some of you who may be Repubs but whenever I'm reminded of 2000 it bugs the shit out of me!

Yeah, me too, I was here watching the “Democrat election grab” reports as they came in, Didn’t get my info from the spinsters at THE LA TIMES..

Especially how Democratic poll workers started the whole thing manipulating elderly voter in West Palm Beach county by telling them lies about their ballots and how they were incorrectly punched and defective, this very same ballots had been used in countless elections for decades, I also remember Al Gore busing in Liberal lawyers by the hundreds to steal the election, recount the democrat precincts only he wanted, how convenient, only those ballots were defective of course, HA HA HA, what bothers you guys is that some one you accuse of been a “dummy” was able to beat you at your own game and send your Clinton lackey packing back to Tennessee, where no one even votes for him!. As far as the conspiracy theories goes, you believe in Fairy Tales and I don’t.

What-ever!
So Mix, we will not agree on this. I will say that your team runs all 3 branches of government as well as a significant if not a majority of state governorships. You ought to be quite content with the state of the nation and the direction we are going in :o

Ronstadt May Return To Vegas Stage

Thanks to negotiations today between the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC) and the prospective new owners of Las Vegas's Alladin Theater, expect to see RAC member Linda Ronstadt back at the venue this fall -- with filmmaker Michael Moore on backup vocals.

The singer was the recipient of heavy-handed treatment Saturday (July 17) when she dedicated the Eagles' "Desperado" (co-written by RAC co-founder Don Henley) to Moore, the director of the anti-President Bush documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11."

News reports said some in the audience booed, stormed out of the theater and tore down posters. Reports also said Ronstadt was escorted off the premises without being allowed to return to her dressing room, which she has subsequently denied.

After a day of negotiations, the prospective new owner of the venue, Robert Earl, Chairman and CEO of Planet Hollywood International, Inc., issued the following statement:

"We hope to be approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission to become the new owners of the Aladdin Resort in Las Vegas as early as September 1, 2004. Upon the assumption of ownership, and with a new management team in place, we would like to offer the use of the Theatre of Performing Arts to Linda Ronstadt for a second concert and further to take Michael Moore up on his offer to join her on stage to introduce her and sing a song."

"We respect artists' creativity and support their rights to express themselves," said Earl. "We were very sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances of this past Saturday night and want to make it clear that Planet Hollywood has never, in our 13 year history, restricted any artists' right to free speech and we will continue with that policy once we take ownership."

Oh, I gotta admit something about "The Women" since Marky mentioned it. I liked the movie so much I bought the dvd. :)
I think that when you talk about the Bush crusade you're referring to his anti-terrorism-politics.
I agree with you on one fact: to fight people who do that kind of atrocities you need "special" tactics.

But! I was looking to the global Bush-politics and you can simply not deny that this is an extreme-conservative group of people that simply tries to interfere with everyone's personal life. For instance, the proposed segregation of boys and girls in schools. The opposition to gay-marriage. Gays and lesbians can legally marry in Belgium since a year now and our country was not destroyed by that fact. That was the point that I wanted to make. Bush was also interfering with the fact that Turkey must be accepted into the European Community which caused a riot with the French president. We don't interfere with the relationship between Mexico and the USA so Bush also has to stay out of European politics.
America rules the world and all the other people have no valable opinions. One step away from:" If you don't agree you are communist". Sorry, I never was a communist and I never will be one. And I did my military service, even as an MP and I could have done a civilian service instead, but I chose to serve my country. I carried a loaded weapon every day and my orders were: shoot to kill. That makes you think, you know, about war and peace and indeed, sometimes you can not avoid war but you can not fight hate with hate because then you only create new hate.

They are governing with the(ir) bible in their hands. Government and religion must be separated. Religion must be respected but it is a private matter.

That's the view we get from him. A man who doesn't care about international laws (The Hague???) . He simply doesn't want to discuss about crucial issues that concern the whole world and don't stroke with his views.

Freedom of speech, freedom of religion: that's the American constitution, remember

And when you say that you have to take freedoms away and later re-install them. You may be right but that's a very dangerous concept! Democracy is a very precious thing. Protect it, maybe at some point restyle it but never ever destroy it. The only thing that has to be destroyed is terrorism and not artists or people who have different opinions. And I sincerely hope we can work this out: all together!!!

This happened in Argentina some years ago: the late salsa singer Celia Cruz was here to do a concert, the house was full because she's very known here and she also recorded with some local artists, i.e. the ska-latin band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Many young people attending the concert, all singing and dancing. Then, in the middle of the show, Celia announced a song that she dedicated to the Miami cubans (like them, she was always opposed to Fidel Castro). Now, many of those young people on the audience had sympathy for Fidel, something that could be discussed, but now I'm just stating the facts.
What happened? Since she started to sing the first word of the song, people booed. And booed and booed during the entire song.
So? Any early leaves? Guards escorting Celia out? No. As soon as the song ended and she started another, it was back to the joy ambience, with people again singing and dancing. It was a great success.
That's what I call freedom of speech from both Celia, the audience and the show producers. :D
