Default Singers vs Performers

Our American Idol thread gave me this idea to seperate the singers from the dancers. As I mentioned before and I see that others agree with me that less is more. Excess dancers and stage props can be very distracting and tiresome. For example:

SINGERS - their voice is enough to fill the stage!
1.Barry White
2.Deniece Williams
3.Mariah Carey
4.Chaka khan
5.Alicia keyes - the piano skills is a big plus!
6.Luther Vandross
7.Johnny Gill
8.Whitney Houston
9.Martha Warsh
10.Michael Jackson - One of a kind singer & performer
11.Patti LaBelle
12.Barbara Streisand
13.Chante Moore
14.Toni Braxton
15.Pharrell
16.Marc Anthony
17.Christina Aguilera
18.Anita Baker

PERFORMERS - excessive dancing/poor singing skills
1.Jennifer Lopez
2.Janet Jackson
3.Paula Abdul
4.Britney Spears
all of these girls are "dancing eye candy" but they can't sing!
5.Al B. Sure
6.Ricky Martin ? "gyrating eye candy"
7.M.C Hammer - watching his shows is like watching a Queen Ant and her soldiers at work - TOO DAMN BUSY and CONFUSING!!!!!
8.Ashanti
And many more.

What do you think????????????

I'm surprised you mentioned Al B. Sure. I thought most people forgot about him. his 1988 debut album is a classic. it really helped defining what was to become "Nu Jack Swing"

On the bad singing good dancing list please add all the various boybands, Westlife, Boyzone etc. and also Kieth Sweat...he never really could sing.

I may like Britney Spears's music, but I can't stand her live show. I find it to be unwatchable.

Hi K-Bee

I'm suprised that you think Keith Sweat's singing sucks. I think that Keith has the better voice while Al had the looks. Al's first album was sucessful thanks to studio equipment, background singers etc...But he stunk at the Apollo years ago thus convincing me that his looks is what got him a record deal. Sometimes I feel that Keith gets a bad rap from the fellas because of his "begging lyrics".

Outsider,
Britney's concerts is a prime example of what I'm talking about. Too much going on and in your words unwatchable.

The one good thing about seeing Britney in concert is that she has a full band on stage with her, which makes her music sound much better. But Britney would be a much better performer if she she ditched the dancing and theatrics.

Hey Delight.
Keith does do a whole lot of begging but it seems to work for him.
Add to your dance list, Minni Vanilli (sp). I kinda hate to pick on these guys because I feel there lip syncing was blown way out of proportion.

Hi Paul

In previous threads, I've expressed my like for Milli Vanilli even after they were exiled from the record industry. Still to this day, I love their songs or whoever it belongs to. But you're right - they had no talent, jumping around the stage was their gift. As far as their looks goes, these guys were definite eye candy!!
