Default the WORST movie sequels ever made

Hi fellas,

I don't remeber if this topic was discussed hereon the FORUM, but anyway, I was thinking about the WORST sequels Hollywood ever made and the list is almost endless! In fact, it's an easy task to name the sequels that are good or even better than the original films, but when we talk about PART 2 or 3 of a blockbuster movie, we already know we're talking about crap movies. Here's some crappy sequels I remember:

- JAWS 2 & 3
- all those sequels for NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET are pitiful
- the new STAR WARS trilogy sucks! There's no charming characters and the plots are just weak and boring - it's time to consider a retirement, mr. Lucas
- the sequel for JURASSIC PARK is the WORST movie Spielberg ever made - it's all about the paper indeed
- the 2 Indiana Jones' sequels are VERY weak in my opinion - only the original movie deserves to be called a "classic"
- MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2 is one of the WORST movies made on the last years. Tiny Cruise as a superhero? NO way
- BATMAN RETURNS by TIM BURTON is a great sequel (in fact, it is a better movie than the first one in my not-so- humble opinion), but the BATMAN movies made with George "pretty butt" Clooney and Val Kilmer (ugh) are horrible - better forget them (the movies AND the actors).
- SUPERMAN 2 is another great sequel, but anyone here can even remember SUPERMAN 3 (with RICHARD PRYOR) or SUPERMAN 4??? I can live without the memories of these crap movies, don't you?
- the AIRPORT 70's series, come on... AIRPORT 1980 with Alain Delon and Robert Wagner? No! Airport '75? Well, I have to admit that AIRPORT "77 is a crappy movie but I kinda like it - just a guilty pleasure, you know
- what about GREASE 2??? aND THE HORRIBLE SEQUEL FOR saturday night fever directed (?) by Sly Stallone? BTW, this guy is the king of the bad sequels - ROCKY and RAMBO...

tHAT'S IT FOR NOW.

zeca azevedo, just another bad reviewer

Great Topic :D - the sad thing is that I've watched all the movies you mention. Sequels are always great for cheap laughs.

As far as Sequels go we've got to mention Friday The 13th part 2 - 10 (well, actually part 1 too).

The same goes for
- all the movies in the Halloween series.
- From Dusk Til Dawn 2+3
- Speed 2: Cruise Control
- Species 2
- Universal Soldier: The Return (another Van Damme Flick worth watching - NOT)

Oh - you forgot Jaws 4...Michael Caine was in it - I wonder why he bothered.

BTW - Stallone is working on a Rocky VI. That is bound to be the most laughable movie ever!

Hi K-Bee,

thanx for your reply, you remembered some weird sequels I've deleted from my mind. JAWS 4! Yes, I saw that one too - Michael Caine is a great actor of course, but he's in a lot of bad movies. A guy needs to pay his bills

SPEED 2: you're right on the spot here, what a ridiculous movie, a total flop.

There's a lot of sequels being prepared for release this year: MATRIX (glup!) , TERMINATOR 3 (Schwarza deserves an OSCAR for "BEST ROBOT IMPERSONATOR" OF THE YEAR,

Oh, and I forgot the follow-ups for THE EXORCIST  - talking about weird stuff! Poor Regan...

And the sequels for THE OMEN? Jesus coming back not as a child, but as a grown up to destroy the plans of 666 - just a silly ending for the trilogy (the first movie, starred by GREGORY PECK and LEE REMICK, is good).

THE WORST SEQUEL AWARD GOES TO... "THE BIRDS 2" This, er, "movie" is a complete disaster, one of the worst pieces of cultural trash ever produced - even TIPPI HEDREN appears on this consumate crap, shame on her. The "cause" of the attacks of the birds - pollution! - is simply ridiculous. Compared to this, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE looks like CITIZEN KANE.

We mentioned SLY STALLONE but we forgot CHARLES BRONSON... DEATH WISH 1, 2, 3, 4, 100, whatever, are a total waste of celluloid.

Ah, and the sequel for MEN IN BLACK - simply disgusting.

Keep posting, K-Bee! Peace,

zeca azevedo

Talking about charles bronson:
Death Wish 4 is from 1994. At that time he was 73....do I have to say more??

Other bad sequels include.
American Ninja 1-5 (does anyone else remember Michael Dudikoff...hopefully not)

Robocop 2-3

The Cage (followed by.....wait for it....The Cage II. Both starring long forgotten body builder Lou "The TV Hulk" Ferrigno

Maniac Cop 1-3

Waynes World 2 (and 1)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1-3

Three Ninjas ... and the follow up "Three Ninjas Kick Back" (Who told the movie studio that the audience wanted to watch adolescents make fun of martial arts....beats me)

Porky's 1-3

The Hellraiser series (what the hell was that all about???)

Force 10 from Naverone (the ill-fated sequel of The Guns Of Naverone - now thats a movie Harrison Ford must be trying to forget)

Naked Gun 1-3 (we were all better off just watching Police Squad on TV instead)

The Nutty professor 2

Oh, I could go on all night. I can honestly say that I never met another person who has watched as many seriously bad movies as me

Oh yeah - almost forgot about Birds 2: Lands End. I haven't seen it.

MUST......RENT......IT........NOW!!!!

Don't forget the Star Trek franchise. I haven't seen Nemesis but hear it was awful. Same goes for the one that Shatner directed (was it III or IV :-? ). I think Trek might have lived out it's day. Even the new TV series, Enterprise, isn't faring too well.

Hey K,

THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, the original with JERRY LEWIS is one of my favorite movies ever - the "remakes" with EDDIE MURPHY are crap! Who said to EDDIE MURPHY that he was made for acting should be in prison for a hundred years. BTW, THE BEVERLY HILLS COP movies sucks too...

Here's a good example of a sequel that is good as the original film, if not better: THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, the follow-up of the 1930's blockbuster (!) FRANKENSTEIN directed by JAMES WHALE and starred by BORIS KARLOFF. THE BRIDE... is a great picture that adds humor to the classic monster story.

Let's go back to the bad sequels - this topic should be called WHAT THEY ARE THINKING WHEN THEY MADE THESE MOVIES? Here's another bad sequel: I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER - come on, even the title is ridiculous. BTW, I'm not a fan of the "original" movie too.

And what about the sequel for THE FLINTSTONES movie? Did anyone here lost some time seeing this sequel? No, JOHN GOODMAN wasn't in there (the only good thing about THE FLINTSTONES first movie was GOODMAN as FRED - perfect casting). If you think that the story of the first FLINTSTONES movie sucks, you must see the other movie.

Hey K, so you want to see THE BIRDS 2 - good luck, pal. I hope you survive this atrocity.

Peace,

zeca azevedo 2 - the comeback

You all have some great picks for some bad films. Sometimes they should leave the feature film as the one and only made, ...but of course they want that buck$$$
I want to add some..
"Critters 2"..not that the first was good.
I agree with all the "Jaws" sequels, that fish should have been left at the bottom of the sea. I like watching sequels because they're great for a laugh, but these Jaws sequals were worthless. :x
"Gremlins 2"
All those slice and dice films..like "Friday the 13th", "Halloween", "Nightmare on Elm st." etc. etc. Like I said, they're great for laughs but it's to the point where you know what's gonna happen, when it's gonna happen, who it's gonna happen to, where it's gonna happen, what part of the body it's gonna happen to, who'll live and who won't....pah leeeeze. :-?
There's just too many. Oh well......think i'll go rent a flick.

Nicky, the Shatner directed Trek movie was V. Paramount has been rereleasing the movies in special edition DVDs. They won't let Shatner do a Director's Cut of the movie (like Robert Wise was allowed to do for the first movie). He keeps claiming he wasn't given enough money to do the movie right. Yeah, blame it on an insufficient budget. Could it also have something to do with talent?

As for Nemesis, it wasn't that bad but it was pretty predictable.

I actually liked the first "Halloween" and "Friday The 13th" movies.

I hated "Exorcist 2: The Heretic". Total crap.

The Title is not only ridicoulous - it's totally wrong.
The sequel takes place one year after the original. That one went on one year after the incident with the car, meaning the sequel actually should be renamed "I know what you did two summers ago"

Turning the subject around a little bit, there's a certain kind of movie's that will always turn out bad too (apart from sequels)...it's sorta written in the stars.
Movies based on Computer games  :x :

Super Mario Bros: the Movie
Mortal Kombat 1-??? (don't know how many there is)
Street Fighter: The Movie (Van Damme....again  )
Wing Commander
The only exception is Final Fantasy - I rather enjoyed it even though it bombed and almost destroyed Squaresoft in the process.

Also, 1986 was a terrible year for the Hollywood Industry.
Two releases in particular (not follow ups but worth a mention still):
- The Golden Child
- Howard The Duck (I've actually seen this twice  )

I can imagine the love scene between the lady and the DUCK... QUACK! Who thought this mess will make money? George Lucas! Some people even think he's a genius! Go, Jar Jar, go!!!

Here's the face of Mr. Lucas when somebody mentions HOWARD THE DUCK:

This was good. I had to rent it twice because I was really impressed with the graphics. One of those on the "DVD's to buy" list. :)

Beverly Hills Cop - all three SUCK
Breakin' 2 - Hated it!
Staying Alive (sequel to Saturday Night Fever) - The worse!
Flinstones 2 - CORNY!
Missing In Action 3 - BOOOOO!
Jaws 3 & 4 - Good Grief!
Hellraiser saga - I don't like horror but this is a bit much.
Pee-Wee Herman Atrocities - need I say more????
Men In Black - YAWN!!!!
DieHard 2 - It was okay.

Leathal Weapon 1 was the best and part 4 was good thanks to Jet-Li otherwise it would've bombed!! I think it should be put to rest.

I enjoyed both Mission Impossibles :) ! I find the nemesis in part 2 very attractive (Dougray Scott) .

Death Wish 1 was the best part 2 was good but what the hell were they thinking when they made it into a "series". It lost its edginess years ago and Charles Bronson needs to rest.

Both Terminators was great but the first one is the best! I must have seen it hundreds of times and I still enjoy it! :D

Friday the 13ths and Halloween what will it take to kill those mother f**kers   ! part 8, part 9 this is ridiculous! :x

Nicky:
About Final Fantasy - true, the visuals are amazing...I saw it in the biggest cinema in Copenhagen and i was absolutely stunned by the graphics. Especially the character who Donald Sutherland did the voice for.

Be sure to get the 2 disc special edition of the DVD though. There's loads of extras on it...some of them are actually worth watching.

Funny it took so long to bring up Chuck Norris - the missing in action series definitely belongs in here.

Also, Highlander 2 - 4.
