Tina Fey did a bit about American Idol finally paring it down to two...and calling this week's shows "what some insiders are calling the ULTIMATE BATTLE OF THE SEXES"!!! (cue photo of Ruben & Clay)

Eeeewww, She So Nasty!!!!! :P

Does anyone really know who's gonna win AI tonight?
Does anyone really care?

It's like a tossup, dude. I've thought it would be Ruuuuben & Claaaay all along. I think Ruben has a more "marketable recording voice" and Clay has more charisma on stage.

Clay is more of a performer; Ruben just stands there and sweats--yet he usually does sound good.

Clay appeals to the tween girls who find him a non-threatening "boyfriend" type. Ruben appeals to the older R&B velvet -teddy bear lovers...who appreciate a little Luther in their soul ballads. (Actually, a LOTTA LUTHER--since he usually copies Luther's arrangements and phrasing word for word).

Last night both were pretty good. It sure seems like the judges want to crown Ruben...but that damn pesky Clay keeps "outperforming" him.

I didn't vote for either. It's like Solomon telling the real mother & the fake mother to cut the baby in half ..so each can have a piece.

How do ya choose? Will it be Blacks vs. Whites? Fats vs. Skinnies? Gays vs. Straights?

Watch for TWO TEDIOUS hours tonight and find out!!!!

Nrg

Maybe Josh has a chip on his shoulder and refused to participate in the final shows. His singing and performances are mediocre so his presence wasn't missed by me.

Well Rueben won :D :P !!!!!!!!!!!
But Clay is still a winner to me :P !

Was I right, or was I right? I told you that Ruben was going to win it, and sure enough he did. But I'm sure that Clay will get a record deal from this even if he didn't win one. And I also noticed that Josh was a no-show. I'm still surprised that he was able to take leave of absence from the Marines to be on the show in the first place.

I have to agree that the show was boring last night. But at least the bad singers got an encore. Now that's when the show was entertaining. In a few months, we'll get to see it all over again with "American Idol 3".

I guess I could claim psychic powers also:

"I guess Ruben is in the catbird seat. It's his to lose at this point. I would guess Clay to be the runner-up. But then, I've been wrong before."

All I can say is: It was fun.... Thank Gawd, It's OVER!!!

I agree with you on this. Now a couple of question to ask you: Will you buy Ruben's album whenever it comes out, and will you watch the next edition of the show? My answers are probably not and maybe.

By the way, it's possible the reason Josh wasn't part of last night's show is that he had to return to Camp Pendelton after he got booted off. That might have been his agreement with the Marines. I'm just guessing here.

Outsider,

To answer your questions...

Sure, I'll watch American Idol next time. It's a fun show, especially in the winnowing down the competition phase.

Not sure if I would buy a CD by any of the contestants. At present, I'd say "probably not" also...but I'm sorta tempted to get the Kelly Clarkson CD. I've read some good reviews...she was not very good last night however. I saw her do that song several times before...and last night, she seemed to be screaming in the wrong key.

I've gotta be cynical that you can actually "manufacture" stars with any lasting-career value in this process. Sure you can get a few hit records...but will they become more than flash-in-the pans? If they were writing their own material, that would be a better test. In 5 years, will anyone remember these kids?

I'm sure Josh is being kept by the Marines...notice that the first -dumped chick Vanessa has been recruited to take the stage with the kids in his absence. She was avoided earlier in the reuniting the group stuff. Or am I not remembering correctly???

I will watch the next edition also. There are a few changes that I would suggest to make it a better show. (wishful thinking)

1). Nix the celebrity judges.

2). Cut the Wednesday show down to a half hour.

3). Cut the audition process down to one show. The bad singing is humorous to a point, but then gets old.

4). Have Simon refrain from making remarks to contestants he doesn't like about their weight and clothes.

5). Tell Randy not to use the word dog so much.

6) Have Ry-anne publicly announce his homosexuality on national television and admit to having an affair with Simon/Simone.

Scandal is brewing over the results of the "American Idol" outcome. Even ole muck-raker Matt Drudge is getting into this one.

Was it rigged? Why couldn't anyone get in to vote for Clay--but all their "friends " could get in to vote for Ruben?

Why did Ryan keep changing the difference between the vote counts? First 13,000--then 1,300, now supposedly 130,000????? Is he just stupid or misinformed or were they changing it as they were going along? A spokesman for Fox says Ryan just "misread" the results.

Also, Simon is making noise that he has "better offers" and may NOT return next year. Quelle surprise!!! Jeez, and who's gonna replace him --Mr Blackwell???? Anne Robinson from "The Weakest Link? Ann Coulter??? Leona Helmsley? Martha Stewart? Newt Gingrich? Trent Lott? Hitler?????

Stay tuned.

Like I said, I'll probably watch the next edition as well. I certainly would like to see more people who sreech, whine, or just plain suck. I would audition for the show, but I'm too old.

I also noticed Kelly being off-key. And she is mainly a screamer, which I don't care for.

Exactly. As I mentioned earlier, those singers will only be popular as long as the show is, and that includes Kelly Clarkson. Notice that she still uses the show to promote herself? She will never be able to break the connection with the show, and that also goes for all of the contestants. I'll bet that Ruben will appear on the next version. "American Idol" is not about starting long-term careers. But one good thing about it is that it gives people a chance to perform when they might not have a chance otherwise. Kelly may still be waiting on tables if it wasn't for the show.

I'm not surprised about Vanessa's presence since she was one of the top twelve contestants. I figured that she would be part of the finale.

I don't think it was a bad idea. It would be cool if they can get someone like Paul McCartney to be a celebrity judge.

Wasn't it already a half hour? "That 70s Show" aired before it.

I totally disagree. I think the bad singing is what makes the show.

I totally agree with you on this. That makes Simon a hypocrite because he says the show is about talent instead of image. Ironically, the winner of this last edition is on the heavy side. I doubt that Simon told him to lose weight.

He should use the word "man" instead. But if he's talking to a female contestant, then he'll obviously need to use a different word.

I'm not going to comment on this.

The last few weeks may have been a half hour, but when they had more contestants it was an hour.

I was injecting a little humor. I don't really expect someone to air their sexual preferences on a family t.v. show.

I read that the reason Josh was absent for the finale was indeed because he had to return to his unit at Camp Pendleton following his exit from the show, but he will be part of the "American Idol" tour this summer.
