Wink EUROsong 2008!

We're gearing up for the 2008 edition of the famous and beloved Eurovision Songcontest.

Since Belgium hasn't won anything except last place ovr the last years, our incredibly talented artists are really trying everything to come up with a possible winning song

And when I say everything I do mean....

Here are some ehmmm entries from the current Belgian preselections:

Jussi, I said "Let the feast begin". But, no, what are the Finnish people sending to the festival > Heavy metal, again! OMG, this is cheap Iron Maiden. Anyway, I managed to listen for about a little minute

You guys have no chance this year - Enfield's very own Andy Abrahams is representing the UK...a nice bit of modern soul with intones of disco!! It will have them rocking in the aisles!!

Andy was the runner up two years ago to Shayne Ward in the X-Factor, Simon Cowell's talent show in the UK. He released an album that sold 80,000 copies and has been seen most recently doing 40 minute sets at Barmitzvahs in North London! He used to be a dustman (trash collector?) and basically deserves his success.

Actually I think we'll do rather well this year - certainly amongst the Eastern European countries - as half their workforce can be found residing in the South East of England. Whereas even only three years ago all bar staff were Australian nowadays they are either from Poland, Lithuania or Slovakia. Most of Romania now sell flowers at major junctions in roads around London, the Russians run the best Japanese restaurants and nightclubs around town and if you find a plumber or electrician whose not Hungarian then he's only pretending to be one!

Us Brits haven't invaded anyone recently or done anything to upset the sensitivities of our neighbours - we even sort of like the French President as we'd all like to shag his new wife - I definitely think it's going to be our year in Eurovision! :w ink:

Bad news travels fast, that means that Ishtar has just won the Belgian preselections and are off to Belgrade instead of my favo Sandrine.

That means that I don't have to support Belgium this year and that I will now cast my vote, vow my support, put my shoulders under, endorse with full power.....sorry, Russ, not Great-Britain but...

and it's a supersong....

To me, it sounds like another Take That, West Life, etc. slow song....I couldn't even place the language - sounded Italian!!

Looking forward to the actual competition now!!

Yes, that's the weird part, for an Italian who's from Lugano/Italy, he sounds very...Italian They speak Italian in certain parts of Switzerland, so...

The guy has the looks, he has the voice and, yes it's a typical Italian Pop song, style Eros Ramazotti, Gianna Nannini, Zucchero who all had massive hits. And that's what Eurovision should be about, singers with songs (just like the Brits who are good this year) instead of a bunch of stand up comedians. You know, that's why Italy quit the contest years ago, they wouldn't play in this circus anymore. They have their own great San Remo Festival

Russ, I know that this is important to you, even more important than the new F1-season.

I don't know why western Europe bothers any more. No matter how good the music is the votes don't come in. It should go back to a panel of voters rather than the public voting IMO.

Yep, over the last days there was very hard criticism about that. European broadcasters want the voting system being re-invented. How and when, well we'll have to see.

BTW, the winner Dima Bilan, was produced by Timbaland.

But I do have a crush for the 2nd place, that's Disco!!! Ukraïne has a great Dance scene at the moment and I will be promoting some of their artists here so people get to know them better.

The western countries should try sending their big stars as well just like some eastern countries do. Some British singers like Leona Lewis or Amy Winehouse are very succesful abroad at the moment but I doubt most people ever heard of the UK's Andy whatshisname before. A little bit of promotion in other European countries before the show might help as well.

Also, the truth is that the high points from western voters normally go to eastern countries as well. Quite often I found myself voting for eastern countries as well. Last year my favourite songs were from Hungary and Lithuania which aren't that western, too.
