Default everytime I think about the So. California fires

or Katrina or any other disaster, I often think "what's the FIRST material thing I'd try to save if my home was threatened?" and the answer is my disco records...not because they're the most valuable thing I own but because they would be the most difficult thing to replace, and many are impossible to replace. They'd also be the most difficult thing to transport.

I feel the same way. I think many of us do. That's why I was trying to reach out to Paul and other members in the San Diego area the other day.

In my hallway, I have floor to ceiling closets on both sides. I used to keep my records on the floor of one side. One day, I woke up and found water streaming down my living room wall that shares the same as the closet with my records. A neighbor, two floors up, had left the water running in a sink.

Thankfully, it did not come down into the closet. But the next day I moved them to the other side, that has no plumbing in the walls, and raised them onto shelves and crates.

I have been meaning to insure my collection. Does anybody here have their collection insured? Any idea how much it costs?

How ironic this topic came up as for now I keep my LP, 12" & 7" at my mothers house for same keeping since I move around way to much in the last few years.

This may sound selfish but as my mother was saving the family pictures and important papers before she evacuated. I had to stop and think about my precious records. I did leave 'em behind in this case.

You want to talk about ironic? On the very night I read these responses (10/30/2007) we had a 5.6 earthquake in Northern California. I think I'll keep my dark thoughts to myself from now on.....my teenage neighbor freaked out and called 911
