Default Napster --- Not Dead Yet?

There was announcement this week that Roxio, digital media giant and owner/maker of, amongst other things, E-Z CD Creator, intends to buy Napster and all its properties out of bankruptcy. It will not be taking on Napster's legal battles.

Roxio says when the buyout is complete it will then announce it's strategy on how it intends to utilize Napster for it's consumers.

What do you think? Will they putting those files back out there for public consumption? Wouldn't that still be against the new laws just enacted?

Nicky,

I would guess they would try a monthly subscription fee type service, so the "evil corporate empire" could get some royalty bang from our subscribing bucks. But, it couldn't possibly ever have the endless titles that it once had.

Funny, cause there is an article in the LA Times today about record executives vowing that this will be the last holiday season that Internet piracy will undercut album sales and labels' year-end profits.

Music and technology execs vow that next year technology will be in place to prevent songs from being transferred from CD to the Internet. But, they've made that prediction before.
