Default "Mulholland Drive" makes sense... A case for Mark

I just saw this great movie by David Lynch. OK, I'll admit I'm a Lynch fan. Around here all comments are like "strictly for fans; his most uncomprehensible ever". But for me, it made great sense.
Like in "Lost highway", this movie focuses on a psycho-troubled character. In "Lost highway" it was a man who couldn't cope with the fact that he had killed his wife. In "Mulholland Drive" it's the girl we see in the last 20 minutes of the movie. In both cases, a good part of what we see happens only in that character's mind.
In "Mulholland" most of the movie (the first two hours) is a dream dreamed by the girl we see in the last 20 minutes. That's why characters and names repeat themselves from first to second part in complete disorder. This is quite obvious; in fact, one of the characters calls: "Diane, it's time to wake up!" right at the end of the dream; there are close-ups of a cobertor and sheets; we see and hear the asleep girl's breath; the dream is full of nonsense, unfocused shots, etc. etc.
A brilliant example of this trans-position is the second lesbian scene (in the "awake" segment), in which the characters repeat dialogue from the dream (it's the "scene" she makes at her Hollywood audition), all this remembered by the girl while she masturbates.
(Well, if you didn't see the movie this sounds quite tempting, huh? Don't fret, I'm not giving away the argument and you can enjoy the movie the same.)

What follows DO give away some plot points, but it's fascinating, because it comes from real life:
At the very end credits, there's a caption that reads: "Dedicated to Jennifer Syme - 1972/2001". Of course I was curious, so I went into this cyberplace to check it out.
I found several interesting details:
1) Jennifer Syme worked in the record business and in the past was Lynch's assistant; in fact, she did a small part (credited as "junkie girl") in "Lost highway";
2) she was Keanu Reeves' girlfriend for some time;
3) they lost a stillborn baby at the end of 1999, after which they separated;
4) she died in a car crash on some L.A. avenue in April 2001 (her Jeep Cherokee hit 3 parked cars and overturned; she wasn't wearing a seatbelt);
5) according to some news reports, police found prescription forms and some antidepressant drugs in her car.
Now if you saw the movie all these details sound very interesting... And strange, if you remember that "Mulholland Drive" was thought first as a TV series and the movie resembles very well the script of the pilot episode. I had read the script in the web when the station (I think it was ABC) originally planned to air it shutted down the project, and the first hour of the movie is basically the same thing, including the car accident at the beginning.
But wasn't all this filmed BEFORE this girl had hers? Well yes! The cancellation happened in mid-1999, with the pilot episode already done. And the car crash was there from the beginning! (confirmed by an old Guardian story). In fact, the complete film was presented in Cannes last year, that is just one month after Syme's death.
Do you remember one of the characters has his own movie shut down by the executives? This was also on the script from the beginning! Life imitates art?

Some more bizarre details about Syme: according to MTV.com, she found her death when coming from an all-night party in the house of her friend Marilyn Manson (who scored and also did a cameo in "Lost Highway"!). There was some white powder in the car, and this encouraged the girl's mother to make a suit against Manson, accusing him of letting her daughter drive while drugged/inebriated. Manson claimed that she had been sent home with a friend as driver, and that later Syme tried to return to Manson's home by herself, during which time the accident occurred.

Now Marky, you the man on the site, gimme some information on this puzzle, will yo mate!
