In the summer of '05, an indie movie production came to town and was looking for extras to be spectators for a high school football game scene. Filming was to start at 9 PM and I figured it would go on for hours so I passed on the opportunity. Has anyone had the opportunity to be an extra? Here's two photos of a scene that was shot in a college library. This is an actual library not a soundstage.

I used to do some Extra work back in the late '70s and early '80s. It was well paid, easy to do, knackering (usually a 6.a.m. start) if I'd been DJing the night before or had to DJ the same night and ultimately damned boring. It usually consisted of sitting around doing absolutely nothing for hours and hours. The most famous person I got to 'work with' was Lee Remick in a couple of shots for a movie (probably a TV movie) where we had to pretend we were evacuating a ship that had been hit by a torpedo during WW11. I remember that those guys who were prepared to jump over the side of the ship into the water were paid an extra £20.00 (at the time my usual DJ earnings were £20-25 per night).

I did work as an extra in the early 90's in a B.B.C. series called "Spender" feat. Jimmy Nail. The club i worked in was used for some scenes. The problem came after sitting around all day drinking while we were waiting for the scene on the dance floor, like most drunks i thought i was really putting on some great moves until i watched the episode on t.v and realised i looked totally stupid. I just hope it never gets repeated.

Several years ago I with my brother and his wife drove out to the little town of Wasco ...where a movie shoot was using their high school's football field for such a scene . We all filed in and filled the bleachers and performed various mock crowd reactions while a helicopter buzzed back and forth capturing our reactions . Took hours and they pacified us by an ongoing raffle where they gave out stuff like TVs and T-shirts. (our only pay ????) The scene turned out to be very limited ....under the opening credits I believe. The movie? THE SON-IN-LAW "starring" I'm in seat HH 32 *****
