 Candido still performing @ 85 Cándido Camero "Like Cachao and Bebo Valdés, Cándido is one of the last Afro-Cuban living legends. His hands are no longer on fire, but it's time to discard such flashy, mainstream-pleasing monikers. The conga is a magnificent instrument, a Cuban refinement on an African percussion tradition. To hear its skin slapped at the right time, with the right power, and the right melodic tone is to feel one's body invaded by a friendly alien force."         |
