Jobriath was an American incarnation to ride on the wave of Euro disco outer space themes..think Boney M "Nite flight to Venus", Cerrone "Superanature" etc, circa 1979?...he had bleach blond hair, silver neck choker, ziggy stardust silver jumpsuit, a "Gay" look , and zip talent. They put up a HUGE billboard in Times Square heralding his albums release, i believe he appeared at Bonds or Xenon or some such disco also...and America responded by ridiculing him / not buying the album / using him an a reason for "disco { read = gays } sucks" etc etc.

Anyone see the third episode of "Queer As Folk" that aired last Sunday & Tuesday? The show features a subplot about the cast watching a fictional gay show like "QAF" and another subplot that features a politically correct gay writer for Out, the Pittsburgh gay newspaper. This writer chastises a gay organization for giving a "gay hero" award to Brian Kinney for saving Justin's life, because the writer also says Brian had been a dubious role model since he had been robbing the cradle with his relationship with the once underaged Justin.



Anyway, the gay writer was played by an actor who very closely resembled gay writer Andrew Sullivan. The facial features and lack of hair were dead on; only the English accent and the now "portly" body was missing. The writer character who comes on holier-than-thou and then is later revealed as a hypocrite is suspiciouly close to Miss Sullivan, who wrote a novel about gays needing the right to marry and have government sanctioned monogamous relationships. Andy, of late, has also championed the current right-wing administration and, of course, his beloved Catholic church. A few years ago, Sullivan admitted that he had recently sero-converted HIV positive, an odd occurrence given the years of safe sex training he must have endured. Last year, old randy Andy was revealed to be advertising for "Barebacking" partners to pound his butt WITHOUT a condom on some website. The writer in the "QAF" also turned out to be a moral hypocrite talking gay responsibilty and morality in public, then barebacking at an orgy Michael & Emmitt stumble upon.



Anyone else see the similarities? Any comments?

Marky, I didn't realize that John Spencer's FOD status was a shock to anyone. Cecil Hoffman bearded him on and off-screen during LA LAW, as I remember. It's funny how older gay actors are able to stay in that closet: people are suprised to hear about everyone from John Mahoney on FRASIER to Will Geer on THE WALTONS, yet will more readily acknowledge younger male celebrities as gay.

I remember when Esai Morales used to hang out at the mixed club Visage in the early 80's, he was very pleasant....and if he was gay, he was also very discreet, at least back then.

I remember La Brigitte back in her heyday....as I stated before, she was a denizen of the Cubbyhole back in the late '80s, when she'd be in NY "visiting her fiance' Mark Gastineau"......:grin: A friend of mine was one of the bartenders during that time frame, that's where a lot of my late 80s gossip comes from. Gitte was not discreet back in the day! I thought she was hot back then, but if you check her out recently, Mother Time has bitch-slapped her with a venegance.

I never woulda suspected John Spencer, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. I didn't think much about it until he was doing a play at the Mark Taper Forum and the LA Times interviewed him and he went on about the live-in woman in his life. Gag me with a lie!



Now, John Mahoney I didn't know! Boodi, you know your stuff.



Jeffrey Jones ( Ferris Bueller & Beetlejuice), I know about. Didja see that tabloid article on Jeffrey & Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Reubens being accused by some teenage boy of molestation. The cops took boxes of porno outta Pee Wee's home. Don't think that one's been resolved yet.



Paul Winfield ("Sounder") is another one I had no idea about, until he showed up with his boyfriend at a party I was at in San Francisco, back in the day.

Marky, meu amor, now you have surprised the Goddess! JEFFFREY JONES (AMADEUS!) was the other actor named in that PeeWee case? Wow! What is it with celebs and take-out chicken? You remember the Billy Preston incident about 5 years ago? The Kevin Spacey revelations that you have mentioned? And on my side of the fence, Paula Poundstone.....don't these people realize the harm that they do? Straight celebs dating back to Charlie Chaplin have liked 'em young....but there is no stigma there! When people like Spacey, Jones and Reubens do the same thing, fingers are quickly pointed....drives me nuts.

Paul Winfield, to his credit, has always been who he is, at least in his later years. Older Black gay actors seem to be less obsessed with the closet, I'm thinking of people like Winfield and Bernie Casey, etc. Then there are those like the sad, tragic Howard Rollins....what a waste.

So what was the deal with Paula Poundstone and those child abuse allegations? It's no surprise that she's a lesbian to me, (you'd have to be BLIND, not to know) but she always struck me as a kind and loving person to take in all those kids, most of whom were handicapped in one way or another.



A bum rap? Bad behavior on her part?



I saw her with Maria Shriver the other night. Was it all just one big misunderstanding and a case of bad judgement (going to get the kids ice cream cones after a few too many white wines)? Or is this just the p.r. folks version? Any clues?

I knew about Howard and I always suspected Paul Winfield was gay. I didn't know about Bernie though. Now I wonder what he was really thinking when he played the head of a frat in Revenge Of The Nerds. There was a scene where a gay character at a party sticks a long balloon in his mouth and looks at Bernie flirtatiously.

Marky, considering the amount of spin-doctoring coming out of Poundstone's camp, I'd say there is some substance to the charges, much to my chagrin :sad:

Paul, I remember the scene in NERDS when Larry Scott was camping it up with Bernie Casey. Many people find it hard to believe that jocks and ex-jocks can be gay or bi. If I get started on THAT, say goodbye to Bernie's bandwidth.

Lastly Paul, I will absolutely NOT tell you that Ashley Judd "dated" Sherry Lansing early on in order to help her career. You will not hear that bit of nasty-nasty from me, absolutely not!

Well, let me add my 2 cents worth on some of names that have been dropped overnight.



Will Geer (Grandpa Walton) was the lover of gay-rights pioneer Harry Hay for a number of years--and then, strangely enough, went straight and married actress Herta Ware (Jack Gilford's wife in "Cocoon") and fathered several children, among them actresses Ellen Geer ("Harold & Maude") and Melora Marshall. When he was Grampa Walton, he was still married to Herta and living the straight life.



Paul, still obsessing about Tracy Camilla Johns after all these years? Coincidentally, the agency I work for repped all the actors in "She's Gotta Have It" except Spike Lee, himself. This was due to the fact that our receptionist at the time knew them all and had a small bit in the movie herself. Spike used to hang out in our office waiting for our receptionist. This was the summer that the movie was released. We repped Tracy, Tommy Hicks, & John Canada Terrell and, sorry to say, couldn't get any of them arrested let alone another job. They all either left or were dropped. Ironically, Larry B. Scott ("Revenge Of the Nerds") was our receptionist's boyfriend at the time, so I knew him too. He was real hot for a few years, and then his career evaporated also.

Oh, the perils of show biz!



Now, Boodi, Sherry Lansing (Mrs William Friedkin) is a ladies lady? Was that a joke or what?



And last, I found the tabloid with the Jeffrey Jones/Paul Ruebens dirt. It was in the National Enquirer dated Dec 11 (my birthday, by the way). Here's some of the highlights:



"On Nov. 16, sex crime cops armed with a search warrant raided Reubens' Hollywood Hills home, seizing thousands of pornographic photos and several computers containing smutty images. The most damning evidence was Polaroid pictures of males appearing to be under age 18 performing solo sex acts. The search also turned up the drug Ecstasy.



And Reubens isn't the only celebrity involved in the sex crime probe. Gay porn materials were also seized from the residence of Paul's actor-friend Jeffrey Jones...



Reubens immediately denied any wrongdoing and sources close to him said he had been set up.



The shocking scandal began when a 15-year-old boy complained to LAPD's Hollywood Division that he had been sexually abused by Reubens & Jones.



"The boy said he had performed oral sex on Paul & Jeffrey as well as having sex with the men on many occasions--but now he was frightened," the source said. "He said he felt they were becoming more abusive and he was afraid of what might happen to him if it continued."



LAPD detectives spent 8 hours each at Paul & his pal Jeff's homes seizing a truckload of potentially illegal materials... at Pee-Wee's home alone, police filled a flatbed truck with almost 2,000 videotapes, dozens of boxes of pornographic photos and books, and at least 3 computers containing lewd images. But the most damaging were the Polaroid photos.



Police strongly believe that the boys in the Polaroid photos were under the age of 18. Some appeared to be 13 to 16 years old.



Reubens denies any sexual involvement with the 15 year old boy. And an insider close to the star told the Enquirer the youth set Reubens up because he was angry because he believes the actor insulted his family.



"This is a shakedown attempt", the insider said. The kid claims that Paul tried to get him to pose for porn, but it's not true. And Paul did not have a sexual relationship with the kid, either."



That's the gist of it. :sad:

Well, Paul--it was just a bit. Was it about Spike remembering his old girlfriends--and there was a montage of scenes of various women? Anyway, she was one of the women in a series of quickly cut scenes. I haven't seen the movie in a long time. Does that ring a bell for you?
