Well, now it's 11:30 on a hot Saturday night in SF and I'm tempted to just go to bed--BUT I dutifully put my boots on and hit the streets. I start crossing Market outside Beck's and there's Bob and the afore-mentioned spurned "doctor" walking towards me...I say "quelle surprise" and Bob retorts 'Piggo"!!!!!????? What???

I wander back to the Castro and some of the bars are so hot inside (remember no air-conditioning in SF) that I can't get past the entrance. I eventually end up back at the Midnight Sun where later I spot the "doctor" leaving with some other guy, definitly not as hot as Bob. Well, ya gotta give the "doc" props for not taking "No" for an answer...or do you????

I get bored and proceed back to the brothel. J&B are out and about.

Sunday, I meet Keefe for the Castro Street Fair and we wander around in the 90+ degree heat--eventually spotting J&B in front of their bar, The Edge. Bob has on his "slutty shorts" with a huge tear over the left asscheek. Bob is wearing NO underwear; apparently, these are his Castro Street Fair shorts--pulled out once a year for this event---OR SO HE SAYS!!!!

Keefe and I wander all over and eventually decide to drive over to Amoeba Records at around 5:00PM. We shop and I actually buy a few things: the new Natalie Cole, the CD issue of Dionne Warwick's "Track Of The Cat", "Magnum Opus 2", and "Larry Levan's Classic West End Records Remixes Made Famous at the Legendary Paradise Garage". Keefe gets one of the Dimitri In Paris CD's and one of the Jane Monheit CD's and some other stuff I don't recall.

We then drive back to Market Street and have a cocktail at Mecca-- a trendy bar/eatery with 2 drag performers--Mamie Van Gorgeous who does an energetic French-type number and then, Miss Edie, (resembling Ileanna Douglas/Lisa Kudrow in a very 1966 brunette Suzanne Pleshette-type wig and wearing a black mini)
Ileana Douglas and Lisa Kudrow?? Now that's a combination that would deflate anyone's dick.

"Miss Edie" or Miss Eydie" (I'm not sure if she was paying homage to Edie Adams or Eydie Gorme'!!!) was a most fetching and energetically volatile performer. She "rowed" her little heart out in the brief time "The Boat That I Row" was spinning. She was non-stop motion "crossing that ocean". I was most entertained.

Sound like u guyz had the most enjoyable time! I've also eaten at Bagdad Cafe on market street! The waiter who served us was so cute & flirtatious; not unusual for the Castro I s'pose! BTW, is/was Lulu very big in the U.S.?

It sounded like you guys had the times of your life so thanks for sharing it with those us who stayed at home  and counted BPMs....while you were sunbathing, bar-hopping and general carousing...please tell us more about it when you can....especially the music scene up there nowadays and the Castro - has it changed a lot?.....

....One thing I would change would be your Diner scenario from the one in SATC to the one in Queer As Folk (more entertaining foursome, cuter butts, and their humor is more biting - in more ways than one!)

Yup, Danceman, the Castro has changed quite a bit, especially in the last few years. Elephant Walk is now Harveys, which had to be recently remodeled after a fire. Badlands is now all chrome, tv monitors and glitz as they removed the pool tables and added a dancefloor! Castro Street Station is now The Bar On Castro. Diesel just opened up at the former Bank Of America site on Market and Castro. However, the Castro Theater, Cliff's Hardware and the Sausage Factory still remain.

The music scene tries to appeal to the younger crowds, with a slant towards the divas. However, as you move away from the Castro, you'll find the music more electic. For example, Mecca (where Marky and I saw Mamie Van Gorgeous and Miss Edie), which is more towards Market and Church will into more of the older jazzier & lounge grooves (since it's a bar and a restaurant).

Oh, my gawd, Marky!!!

It's a good thing you didn't stay longer than one weekend--there is just not enough bandwidth (or whatever) at this site for a longer recap!

But I must admit that I LOL'ed big time when I read your "Potemkin" description of your broken glasses. Perfect!

As for our "Sex and the City" who's who, I guess I would also make a good Carrie since I'm a writer too, but I think it's safe to say that I did my best Samantha in SF as well. (Btw: A very friendly guy moved into your room after you checked out. Actually there was no shortage of friendly guys at the hotel...)

And Keefe: I wouldn't be upset about being Charlotte. She's a total sweetheart and so are you. To everyone else: Keefe is friendly and lively and interested in everything you have to say... what a great guy!

And I think some of you might be surprised about the Real Marky, but I don't know if I should say anything that might affect the Marky Mystique.

(Btw: Personally, I would MUCH rather be the gals on "Sex and the City" than those boring charicatures on "Queer aZZZ Folk.")

As for Marky's comment about the Al Parker wannabe talking to "the wrong people" (your words), what I said (or meant) was that Faux Al could have done better than any of the rather average guys I saw him trying to pick up. And if you think that translates to "pick me, pick me," well, you're probably right, dammit. (I never did see him after that first weekend; maybe he was a visitor too.)

And excuse me, Mr. Jaded! It was kind of a thrill to see a Famous San Francisco Author at the next table in a restaurant. It was even more fun to drink and dish with him for three hours one night at our favorite bar the following week. Not that I know anything about the next Tales miniseries, or the casts of the previous ones, or can drop names about who's gay, or who's a bitch, or who has a big dick, or who slept with Al Parker. Nope. Not me. I don't know nuthin'.

Well, I have a mountain of mail, elctronic and otherwise, on my desk. More later...

Jeff, glad to hear you and Bob made it home safe and sound! You did hear about the shooting mid way during the second week you were here, didn't you? Pretty close to where you were staying (I think it was in front of the Baghdad Cafe)!

I want to know what you found at Amoeba (if anything)???

Finally, as for Mr. Maupin, jaded we are not! It's simply that he's spotted everywhere (and I mean everywhere!). However, I, for one, want to know what you were able to pry out of him.

Okay, gotta run! Carol Channing is autographing at Books Inc. tonight which is the bookstore under Aloha Records' former second store (now Muscle System). Now if you ran into her at the Edge...!

Keefe,

Don't hold your breath. I've asked for the gossip items several times and all that's been revealed is:

1) Ben Affleck is gay.

2) Scientologists have Tiny Tom Cruise on tape (doing what I don't exactly know--having gay sex, I presume).

That's the sum total of gossip I've been been able to pry. This stuff I could have read, or DID read, in the tabloids. Ah, well. Never fear, I always share my dirt with y'all.

Yes Jeffy,

I WAS on the RAG the day I wrote that post. It was an ultra-heavy flow day.

I'm better now, thank-you very much.

Well Mark, I happy to say that Jeff came through with some great gossip for me from Mr. Maupin (Thanks Jeff!)!

I'll be chatting with both of you more later but, now, I gotta run!
