Does anyone remember "Fiebre"? It was essentially a 2-hour long disco dance contest that appeared on either Univision or Telemundo from 78-81. It was hosted by Gito Firon and Celita Braniff, and was broadcast from DF, Mexico in what appeared to be a huge hotel ballroom. Disco acts that appeared on the show included Claudja Barry, who didn't actually perform  , and Latoya Jackson, who DID perform  . "My Baby's Baby" was the show' default theme song each week. When I returned from school in the fall of 1980 I was horrified to see that the show had become a PUNK show (punk being popular in Mexico for about 5 minutes), and it died a quick death.

No, I didn't catch it Boodi. I guess though that LaToya had to find somewhere where she do her disco song. I seem to remember her doing something around that time that probably sucked.

OK. You got me. Give me a hint on your new signature.

Hi Paul.....Latoya was indeed underwhelming on her "Fiebre" appearance.

The signature? It's from "Sex (I'm A....)" by Berlin).

Trivia note: The lead singer from Berlin, Terri Nunn, also appeared in THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY.

this is interesting...now that you mentioned it, the show rings a very, very vague bell to me. Most likely, it must have ran on what was then called the SIN (Spanish International Network), since they did not change their name to Univision until 1987, when Hallmark briefly owned the network until 1992. Telemundo did not come into existence until the end of '86.

it would be facinating if someone has videotapes of this show collecting dust somewhere... if this rings true, it would be great if Bernie could post real audio snippets of the show (perhaps maybe a full download of an episode)...

get back at me,

kelvy

All those shows from different countries are to die for on tape. But talking of LATOYA JACKSON...She must have toured absolutely everywhere since she even did provincial towns, not just capital cities, in Europe. She arrived with her entourage of one looking like she wasn't a breathing human being but a mannequin made of bizarrely colored purple plastic. Her appearance still haunts me today...where is she now, looking like what, can anybody tell?

This post should be in the Disco-related topic field. Anyway, I do remember "Fiebre". It started in 1978 and faded out somewhere in 1980. It was very popular all over Latin America. I remembered it watching it every week in Lima. People from various countries went to compete in several categories. The choreography, the dance floor, (a la "Saturday Night Fever"), the hosts, and the great tunes made it unforgetable. Snif, Snif, Soob,....I miss that show.
