| What, no East coasters reporting on tonight's finale?????!!!!!!!! Well, I just saw the West coast feed. Pretty underwhelming overall--BUT there is NO DOUBT that Kelly HAS TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! The two new songs reeked of hack Diane Warren (just a guess, although I heard she was among the songwriters penning the new tunes). I think one was the bastard step-child of Whitney's "One Moment In Time" and the other one was it's red-headed, freckled cousin, twice removed. Nevertheless, Kelly soared on her interps and Justin STRAINED-- more so than ever.(At least, that's what it sounded like to me--some of you seem to think he sings better than I). For their covers, Justin returned to "Get Here" and was effective and Kelly surprised the hell out of me (see previous post) by going to the Aretha drawer for "Respect". However, she didn't really sock-it-to-me, sock-it-to-me this time around--BUT was competent. I was hoping for her "A Natural Woman", wherein she hit that thrilling falsetto high note--ah well. The high point of the show for me was an appearance by the winner of the British version--Will Young. He sang his hit-- an amazingly cotton-candyish late 1960's-type confection that I thought was quite charming. The song seemed so innocent and fun--like "Love Makes A Woman" or Love Makes The World Go Round" or something by the Five Stairsteps or some other snappy pop/soul trifle that is instantly catchy and memorable. At least, I thought so. I hope he has a hit over here--BUT it seems unlikely. Has Britain gone back to Bacharach/David era fluff???? If so, more power to the Brits!!!! That's all I remember. I think Kelly has it sewn up. And you?????????????????????????????? _________________ Make My Feet Wanna Dance! | Marky: I was going to report on it, but I didn't want to ruin it for you or any others on the West Coast..... I agree with you about the sappy songwriting and I also smelled Diane Warren's fingerprints on at least one of the cuts....however, I am a weeper....and some of those lyrics know how to shoot an arrow right through to the heart. I half expected Mariah and Whitney to join them onstage at one point....shades of "Hero" for sure. The online polls put Kelly ahead of Justin - last count - 81 percent to 18 percent? Who is the 1 percent reserved for: probably Paula's comeback! (Hopefully not!) Justin shone on "Get Here" and "Kelly" made the most of the originals and this morning one local radio station played a snippet of the songs from both, and it was clear that Kelly will be the one you will be hearing on the radio one day....more to come....

| I think that both Justin and Kelly did a good job last night, but I think that Kelly deserves to be the winner. We'll see tonight if she is indeed the American Idol. |

| Well....America has spoken (or dialed) and we now have a New American Idol: Drum Roll, please.......... ta da Kelly Clarkson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (For anyone who has never watched this show, you can probably skip this post right here.) Otherwise...the only negatives, I thought the show ran a tad too long, two hours was a bit much, wouldn't you say? And I could have waited until the radio saturated us with the sugar-soaked ballads, instead of having them performed again,(hankies, please)...however, I especially liked the reformation of the other eight contestants singing alongside Justin and Kelly on both the 60's medley and the Salute to Motown...I taped the entire three hours and cut out the ten trillion commercials in between....I, personally, will be sorry to see the group - for the most part - fade-to-black, but it will be a cherished memory, for sure....Kelly deserved it....earned it and rightfully WON!...now I can get some sleep, until January when the next edition begins with the same crew....even Paula looked good tonite and I cannot stand her most of the time.....I know I am not alone in stating that I think Simon is/was the hit of the series, minus the singing talent, of course...and I find him to be like a magnet to my TV tastes...do you sense a wee little crush here?....

| Well, I was right about Kelly winning the contest. She has the voice that it takes to go all the way. I couldn't decide who to vote for, so I voted for both of them (my fiancee only voted for Justin). Yeah, the song that will be her first single is the typical sappy ballad, but I may buy it anyways. And I wouldn't be surprised if Justin eventually gets a record deal. One thing you can say about this show is that it gave these singers a lot of valuable exposure. Even though most of them will probably fall back into obscurity, at least they had the chance to perform on TV and on stage, and that will mean the most. |

| I'm glad Kelly won. I thought she was a better singer than Justin. I expected Justin to win because of his popularity with the female audience. Some of the people that auditioned for the show were just awful. I can't believe they thought they were good enough to try out for national television. |

| what did you guys think of kellys duet with english winner will young, hes a great singer he can sing anything and make the song his own. sounds like you enjoyed the series but when you get to series 3 as we now are with gerri halliwell as a judge to find a boy band and the new spice girls the novelty wears off, it wont be on in my house and i wont be making a phone call cos i dont fall for all that you see simon needs all the money he can get to pay his publicist max clifford to arrange to have simon photographed with pretty women in nightclubs for the press, simons list of hit records is a sad read indeed almost as sad as he is!!!! |

| Well, the top ten finalists won't be falling back into obscurity just yet. I read somewhere that there is going to be an "American Idol" tour this fall featuring all of them, and that the shows will be held in arenas. I guess a huge demand for tickets is expected for the show to be held in such big venues. I would have expected the show to be held in theatres instead. But with the popularity of the TV show, there might be that huge demand for tickets after all. |

| Does anyone think Simon is nice looking? |

| So is Simon the closet case I've always presumed or is he really the "ladies man" he pretends to be on TV. I saw a photo of him in full makeup and drag and hanging with another man, BUT his mom said the guy was his brother and it was a "joke". What's the truth, you Brits??? BTW, I really liked the song the British winner sang. What's the title and has it been released in the U. S.? Big hit in Britain??? Inquiring minds need to know!!!!! _________________ Make My Feet Wanna Dance! Markydefad [ This Message was edited by: markydefad on 2002-09-05 18:12 ] |

| Oh, so Simon is really a "Simone" and Will is a "Willhemina"???? Am I getting that correct???? I shoulda known. I've always suspected Simon was just pretending to have a "crush' on Tamyra & Christina. The press here actually tried to make people think that Christina's revelation of a fiancee had turned off Simon & the public and caused her ouster that week. "Every Simon who's a Simone, every Mary who's really Marie" (that's from "Liza with a "Z" ) a recurring theme song for me... It's Marky with an "M".... It's Bitchy with a "B"... It's Touchy With a "T".... The variations are endless. Yes, I am certifiable. God Bless.

| Marky and Nrg... Will came out in the press shortly after he won the British "Pop Idol" contest...it seems that Simon, one of the judges, really wanted the other guy who was cuter (hmmmm) and appealed more to the Justin Guarini crowd, but they arent the ones who pay the phone bills, it is the older crowd who dialed up for Will and he has more of that nice boy charm (not particularly a heartthrob, but there is something ingratiating about him, and I agree that his song is something of a "Lay A Little Lovin On Me," Robin McNamara or something that Spanky and Our Gang would have done.... Yes, Nrg, I have a small crush on Simon...don't ask me why, I just do...when I see him on TV I stop everything....he and I would probably always come to blows (pardon the pun) but there is something about that little shit that I like....kinda like a bad car accident, you keep comin' back for a second look.

| So DD, The song that Will sang was an oldie by Jackie Wilson???? I was just saying it sounded like a sweet late 60's song....I thought it was a NEW one just made to sound that way!!! So it's really a cover of an old one, eh? It had backup girl singers in the chorus. It was really charming. I wish I'd taped it--then I could try to decipher the lyrics. Or did I tape it??? Maybe I might have. Well, what were the singles that Will released in Britain? Did they have a sweet poppy/soul late '60's sound???? I'm gonna check my tapes. Cuz I did record some of the shows from this week.
