I agree with everyone it seemed like it was a mixed bag last night. Some nailed the first song, but screwed up the second and vice versa.

I thought Justin did well on "Get Here" but "P.Y.T." fell flat.

I was quite disappointed with Kelly's performance of "It's Raining Men" definitely a bad choice for her.

I won't post anything now out of respect for our West Coast members, but I'm very eager to hear everyone's comments tomorrow....

Well, I just saw the final 4 give 2 performances a piece and I'm underwhelmed to say the least. The judges were praising the performances, BUT I was quite disappointed tonight.

Some general observations.

Everyone's voice (except Nikki) seemed a little strained tonight.
They had awkward beginnings...
They chose songs that I couldn't help but compare to the original vocalist in my head; this cover didn't erase the memory of the original. (There were 2 songs I didn't recognize--that helped those performers, in my mind).

Tamyra: "New Attitude"
awkward opening; she had to start singing and then get the audience up and clapping at the expense of the song, I felt; it was the first time she seemed lost; seemed to lose her place once; too worried about the audience; lackluster & disappointing; not in control; paled next to Patti's version.

Tamyra: "Feel The Fire"
better than the first one; judges said "world-class; superb, brilliant"; I heard Stephanie Mills in my mind.

Nikki: "Mary Jane"
Looked great--hair & makeup were stunning; extremely photogenic tonight; her voice is not that strong in the lower register but she has power wheen she wails; good choice for her; I don't know this song; one of her stronger performances, I thought; Simon actually said "fantastic!!!!" to red-headed bastard step-child NIKKI!!!!!

Nikki: "I'm The Only One"
Melisa Etheridge song proved a good choice material wise; she sang strongly; Simon again said tonight she redeemed herself and proved she deserved to be there!!!

Final tally:
1) Kelly
2) Tamyra
3) Nikki
4) Justin

But Nikki will probably get the boot unless she has actually made that pact with the Devil!!!!!!

And you??? Am I just crabby today or was this show sub-par??? Bring back the Big Band Show songs!!!!!!

Well, I did a post last nite and it somehow disappeared....probably forgot to enter the Password...

Anyway...I agree that it was Nikki's night overall, overcoming past mistakes...but I think it is a little too late...but I won't place any bets on her leaving tonite....if not tonite, next week for sure....never heard her first song, "Mary Jane," - is that about what I think it is about??....Great on Melissa Etheridge tho....she finally found her niche and her vocal couching has paid off....Justin did well on "Get Here," but too cutesy on "PYT" and although he had some nice moves, he is just tooooooo smug and I think he feels that he has the teeny-bopper vote all sewed up for a rush to victory...let's hope not....Maybe next week he will sing, "Hair."....Tamyra - get real with trying to do a Patti...no one can do justice to a Patti standard but Ms. Labelle herself...Ditto the Stephanie Mills' "Feel The Fire"..Tamyra was at an all-time low....She had a case of the jitters....I think she is realizing now that it is near the end, she is not exactly going to be able to breeze to a big win.....Although she will probably be in the final two for sure....Kelly better stick to the standards and the blues....she was way off last nite and I didn't like her performance one bit on either the disco or the Celine....

My order of best to worst for last night:

1) Nikki
2) Justin
3) Kelly and Tamyra (tie)

I just saw Wednesday night's American Idol and the results are in and to quote, Mick and Michael:
Well....I am in a STATE OF SHOCK....

Tamyra Gray.....most everyone's American Beauty Rose destined for singing stardom has fallen from favor with the voting public and lost the competition. I thought sure she would make it to the final two....Now it is up to Kelly, Justin and Nikki...I believe that Tamyra, as Simon Cowell stated, was booted out by the voters who judged her lackluster performance solely on last evening's show, and based mostly on "New Attitude." That being said, don't any of these kids have advisors? Didn't anyone tell her: NO, TAMYRA - PLEASE DON'T GO OUT THERE AND DO THAT SONG....!!! I woulda stopped her! I think that everyone knows that Tamyra has a musical career ahead of her, the judges said so themselves, and Randy and Simon will pull for her.....look out for Ms. Gray.....

This will make it interesting for the next two weeks as nobody is safe now from the hook. I think they will really be on point in the next couple of shows and maybe Tamyra's smackdown will ricochet and whack that perpetual smugness off of Justin's puss. My personal favorite to (not easily) win is Kelly and I can't believe that the audience at home would have it any other way....Justin has between 15 and 20 minutes of fame in him and he has already used up about 10 minutes...Nikki is good enough for a Melissa Etheridge type-folk band or a Pink-ish punk rock group, and as I said above, I was not putting any bets on Nikki's leaving tonight and I am glad now that I didn't, but I believe that neither she nor Justin have the class and sophistication to garner a big time victory....they wouldn't know how to handle it, and I believe that Kelly will pull it off in the end..........stay tuned!

P.S......What did you think of the foursomes' vocal "Tribute to Paula" songathon? Now I know why I slept through the 90's.....Ptooey-ptooey!!

I'm surprised that Tamyra was ousted from the show. I thought that it was Nikki's night for sure. My fiancee thinks that Nikki will be at least the runner-up, partially because she's a singe mom, and many people will feel for her because of that. I disagree about her (Nikki) being the runner-up, but then again I was wrong the last two weeks. And my prediction for the winner is still Kelly.

Well, it's almost 11:30PM here in LA and I just saw the extremely disappointing results.

Wouldn't you know "Big Brother would be a 2 hour tonight--so I had to go into the bedroom and watch that while I taped "American Idol". During a commercial break, during which I moved from bedroom to living room I tried to avert my eyes from the damn TV--BUT I saw Tamyra's face on the screen--SO I wasn't as shocked as I might have been by the finale when I finally played the tape.

Tamyra had an off night last night--BUT she is a far superior singer when compared to Justin and Nikki and it was rotten of America to vote her out. Nikki's deal with the devil must be in development at Fox right now as "Bedazzled III".

"Say it ain't so, Joe".

I was shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you.

I find it hard to believe that Tamyra was booted over one bad song only. Maybe the teenybopper contingent (Justin) and the rock 'n' roll and/or lesbian contingents (Nikki singing Melissa ) cast more votes. Maybe it's because Tamyra is black--but I really hope that's not the case.

In any case, this could be the best thing to happen to Tamyra: She got all that publicity but now she's not obligated to AI anymore. I'm sure a record company will be snapping up this budding diva soon.

So it's all about Kelly now, as far as I'm concerned. This competition is hers to lose.

For those who wanted to know, "Mary Jane" (the first song that Nikki sang) was recorded by Alanis Morissette (it's from "Jagged Little Pill"), and I don't think it's about pot.

Well.....I am totally dumbfounded and flabbergasted!!!!

For the first time EVER....I believe that Justin Guarini is worthy of those nods from the judges and has a better than good shot at being in the final two.

His rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," and Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" were really on the mark - similar to last week's "Get Here" which I still think is his personal best!.....

Kelly was in really good voice and while she strained a bit on "Think Twice," she came back on the judges' pick "Without You," and tho she didn't hit the high notes that Mariah Carey and even Nillson did on their respective hit versions, she certainly topped both of last week's disappointing outings and came back like a pro.

Nikki performed Stevie Nick's "Edge of Seventeen" which I thought was very good but Judge and has-been hack singer Paula Abdul thought that Stevie was too identified with that song for anyone else to try it and do it justice (BOO!!! on YOU, PAULA....Ms. Abdul should be the one knocked out of the competition next week, if anyone.)...How popular did she think that song was?...more than half the audience was probably scratching their heads wondering what the hell it was!........On Nikki's second number, "Black Velvet," she seemed a bit nervous but did well nonetheless...I wish she had tried a different song direction on the second tune, but I guess this pop/rock niche is her forte and she will at least go out of this contest swinging with her musical style intact.....

Tomorrow should not be the upset that last week was as most of the voters watching will probably be influenced (again) by Judges Randy, Paula and Simon and will probably oust tonight's least favorite candidate, Nikki.....who deservedly got to the #3 point but fought an uphill battle all the way.

Goodbye Nikki.

Now you can go home to Texas and dye your hair magenta.

Well, the end results were pretty predictable. How else could it have ended up, once Tamyra was given the boot???

BUT, I have to say that I feel that Nikki earned my respect and deserves a round of applause for her good-sportsmanship. It can't be easy to know that you're NOT gonna win--and be told, week after week, you're NOT up to par and yet have to come back and perform AS IF you think you could win the damn thing. That's the impression I got. I thought she handled herself very well, cause as nasty as the judge's criticism must have stung, she smiled, accepted it and endured. AND, strangely eluded the boot for like five weeks in a row!!!!! Amazing.

And I think whoever has done her makeup and hair the last few weeks has transformed her into a great looking girl. NOW if someone would only do something about the awful footwear she continued to wear--Eskimo boots or some other god-awful type of boot that made her look like she was standing in a bucket of something. I also noticed she looks amazingly like a young punked up Naomi Judd (Mama Judd).

I wonder if any of these kids will actually have any hit records???? It will be interesting to see. Now, in today's trades, CBS has announced it's bringing back the original "Star Search" show--which was a predecessor of "American Idol" in the first place.

So, now we will be inundated with talent search shows as Hollywood goes into copy-cat mode and kills the genre just like it did to game shows after "Millionaire".

"And the beat goes on".....

What the heck happened to "Millionaire" anyway?

A couple of years ago it was the hottest game show on television and came in the top ten almost every week.

I can't believe the public tired of it that quickly, when you have shows like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Price Is Right" that have been on for years.

I think that Nikki McKibbin reminds me of a young Deborah Harry....she would do well to follow her style of music, if I were guiding her career.....Tamyra Gray has been hired by 19 Entertainment, the company behind "American Idol," and has signed her to a management contract and now they will be shopping for a record label...shouldn't be a tough sign.....

One of the biggest reasons that MILLIONAIRE went the way of the wind so fast (although there is a new daily syndicated version with Meredith Vierra beginning soon)is that it got too much hype and it rarely was able to live up to its title....everyone wanted to be a Millionaire, but how often in three years was that feat ever achieved by the shows contestants?....while Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and Price is Right boast smaller fortunes and almost everyday some contestant wins those television shows' big pot....plus Regis and staff quickly lost the audience when they began doing the celebrity shows - for charity, yes - but the little man rush to victory was eliminated that way and with the other celebs dropping bold-faced hints up to $32,000 kind of made MILLIONAIRE a mockery of itself.....I stopped watching that about the second go-round of Star Shows....

I am sure that all these copycat shows will fall by the wayside soon after their debut....but after "Idol's" hot showing in the ratings, these follow-up and retreads were bound to happen....

I knew that Nikki would eventually be eliminated. It was just a matter of when. I'm just surprised that she lasted as long as she did. At least she got to perform. As for who I think will win the contest, I still say it's Kelly, though I think that Justin gave the best performance of the last show.

Both Jeff & I have been wondering WHO seems to be trying to turn Kelly into a Celine/Mariah clone in the past few weeks???

What happened to her inherently bluesy, gritty style? Someone seems to be pushing her to do the Diva vocal gymnastics and choose more poppy material. Am I the only one who misses her covers of old Aretha material? That took a lot of guts to attempt to even dare to sing those songs--AND she was terrific every time out.

Last week she chose a countryish number to open with and I thought that was her best in a few weeks--BUT all THREE judges (INCLUDING Miss "wouldn't say SHIT if she had a mouthful" Abdul) said it was a lousy song choice. They (the judges) chose for her to cover the Nilsson/Mariah histrionic belter "Without You". They loved it.

I prefer the blues and the grit from Miss Kelly. It will be interesting to see what she and Justin choose for the final selections. As I mentioned earlier, they are gonna have to do 2 NEW songs written by some of today's top songwriters (HACKS, IMHO) and one cover of their own choice.

Will Kelly go to the Aretha drawer for her material or do "My Heart Goes On"????? Either way, she deserves to win...BUT girl, don't let them "plastic diva" you into oblivion!!!!!!

America wants a singer with some guts and integrity--NOT another teen Barbie Princess who has to sing 50 notes when one strong one would do very nicely, thank you very much.

AT LEAST, that's the way THIS American feels.

****DEEFAD HAS SPOKEN*****
(Sorry to steal your material, Delight!!!)
