| Don't know if this was discussed when I was gone, but what's the story with Miss Ross cancelling yet another tour last week??! How much is this costing everyone, especially to her already shakey reputation? |

| Keefe-- Is this the tour that would have included a stop at an arts center (I forget the name) outside SF? I was surprised that she was playing a venue that size; I guess she had second thoughts about it too!

| Hey Guys, I saw the little blurb in the LA Times regarding Miss Ross cancelling the rest of her tour after starting out in New York. I'm wondering if it was due to poor ticket sales? I've not seen any reason given, except, maybe references to her health....but, something seems strange here. It sounded like she cancelled after the first week of the tour. Oh, and while we're on the subject of DIVAS--didja catch Miss Rob Lowe's hissy fit cause he didn't get a) a raise and b) an Emmy nomination--he's leaving the only gainful employment he's had in years--"The West Wing"??? Back to cameos in "Austin Powers" movies, Robbie???? Supposedly, E.W, said all three networks called him with offers for potential new series. Yup, uh-huh,... maybe Rob should sit down & talk to David Caruso, Shelley Long, Mclean Stevenson (Oops, he's dead)...but you get the picture. A hit series doesn't come along very often. Squeeze every last penny you can out of one and thank your lucky stars they hired you in the first place. (Especially if you're a dime a dozen aging pretty-boy like Rob Lowe) Just my thoughts.

| Jeff - Goodness, you should be living here in the Bay Area. You know everything that's going on! Anyway, Miss Ross was scheduled to play somewhere in Marin County, I think the Luther Burbank Center. She was also schedule to play at two wineries, which I would think would have sold well considering the market they draw. Wineries adding stages for concerts are becoming more and more common in the Bay Area. I heard they are quite nice venues. Mark - I read that RL didn't get a raise because the producers were afraid it would start another round of salary increase demands amoung the cast. I can't wait to see Lily Tomlin on the show this coming season! |

| I guess Rob will have to go back to making underage amateur porn in order to get publicity. |

| Well, Rob Lowe is getting $70,000 per episode (apparently, what he started with). Martin Sheen is getting in the $300,000 range due to several raises since the show began. The lesser name co-stars (Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, John Spencer, and Bradley Whitford) were all making in the $30,000 range until this upcoming season when they banded together and ALL got bumped up to Rob's range. 9 of the cast members got Emmy nominations this year. Rob had one last year, BUT NOT this year. Apparently that hurt--although supposedly Aaron Sorkin wasn't really writing good stuff for his character. But was this because Rob had been a royal pain in the ass on the set as reports state? Personally, I think this show is a bore. I know the critic's LOVE it. I've never made it through a single episode without turning my attention to something else. BUT ROB LOWE IS A FOOL, nevertheless. He ain't gonna find another show like this one,

Thanks to in-laws and several friends in the Bay Area (as well as subscriptions to the BAR and SF magazine) I'm able to keep up on what's going on out there.

| And Marky: You're all into "Big Brother" but find "West Wing" boring? I'm beginning to worry about you. I fully agree that Rob Lowe has set himself up to become the next Shelley Long, but as for the show being boring--no way. The dialogue is smart and the stories fast-paced (which may be unrealistic for a show about government, but it makes for better TV), and it's nice to watch a show about intelligent adults. And come on: Allison Janney, Stockard Channing?! You know how we love our strong female characters, and this show has some of the best.

| Well, I just read in the Hollywood Reporter, that Miss Ross has canceled the California portion of her tour for "health reasons". It didn't indicate that the whole tour was cancelled. Miss Ross, "Do you know where you're going to"????!!!!!

| Keefe, I think Miss Ross should "retire" for several years and then stage a spectacular come-back tour with Mary Wilson & Cindy Birdsong. The "Apology" Return To Love Tour or "You Can't Hurry Love" Tour. "Someday We'll Be Together" indeed! I just read (in the liner notes for the re-release of Diana's first solo LP) that that track was recorded for Diana's solo career (never knew that) with The Waters doing back-up vocals (did know that)--BUT because of the appropriateness of the message of the song--it became the Diana Ross and the Supremes' swansong and their 12th #1 Single. How nice to go out on top. Very clever move.

| I find West Wing and all those actors big bores....like ER - i think it shot its load.....i didn't watch Big Brother this year although i followed it for the first two years...no reason not to...just too busy...i am really into American Idol....is anyone else?..i think it is the new star search with three hosts that best Ed McMahon. What is with Simon Cowell anyway and his "crush" on Paula Abdul....wink-wink! |

| Markydefad-- I had heard that Johnny Bristol ("Hang On In There Baby") did background vocals on "Someday..." I didn't know that the Waters did the vocals for that song, although I think that Bristol co-wrote the song.
