We are now cracking under the BB attacks! What happens in the other countries? What are the people thinking about?

For the first time BB appeared in the Italian scene last year, and at the Awards was downright first, despite a scientific emission! Things not to believe.

In Italy the broadcasting was born with an aim as for to study the human reactions through 100 days without any contact with the external world. But right now BB is become silly. I personally feel a pain for those who pass all the day looking at it, they have nothing else to do.

I know in France last year, a lot of discussions have been made whether or not allowing a second edition this year, we'll see. But what in the other countries?

"Reality" tv shows are a plaque everywhere. What started out as embarrasing fun is rapidly becoming boring. The only watchable variation of sorts here in Finland is the immensely popular PORN STAR. A deadpan host interviews flabby strippers, naked guys with mullet hairdos, pierced and tattooed weirdos of all kinds and homely hopefuls off the street wanting to star in hardcore. You get h/c clips, raw red flesh, sweaty faces looking into the camera, going into convulsions trying to simulate feelings of desire and passion. It's truly subhuman television but mortifyingly entertaining. The worst thing is city area households get it whether they want it or not, most nights just after eleven. Can it really be, as Pierre Bordeau or whoever the philosopher was who claimed, that porn is the only true form of cinema veritÈ....

"Reality TV" shows in North America are totally boring, since they don't allow any sex, thus depriving people of the voyeuristic delight that would be the saving grace of said shows. Ironically, the most popular "reality TV" shows are the ones that are furthest removed from reality, like Survivor.

It amazes me how people can be absolutely enthralled by some make-believe tribes and machiavellian schemes conjured up by a bunch of self-absorbed people, yet have absolutely no interest in the international news... which I find far more interesting, dangerous, and... real.

How about crap like "Temptation Island" (and its sequel)? It's TV at its worst. And that's just from the ads for the show. When "Survivor" became a hit, all the networks jumped on the "reality show" bandwagon. I also think that they're desperate for programming. But I'm sure that the trend will die soon.

Thank you all for answering,

I was just curious if BB is just an Italian phenomena or not. I can say that this year, at the 2nd edition, is just decreasing the share vs last edition. Hopefully in the next one, will be less and less. But I would say that everyone can see how broadcasting level has become lower in the last years.

The Big Brother idea was born in the Netherlands. No I'm proud of that... NOT!

It's running for the third year now. The first two were ok to watch (watched over my wifes shoulder

The editors made a nice program out of it, if you are into soaps. The second year I really got the impression the editors were putting their 'stamp' on it by showing only the bad things happening around certain people and I suspect them they were trying to figure out if they could influence the voters at home to 'vote out' that person. Then I really started to hate it.

This year is even worse, it starts with the title: Big Brother The Battle.

There are two 'camps', one extremely luxury and the other looks like a barn or something. Two teams are in (I guess) and by performing tasks they win the right to stay on the luxury site, if they fail, the barn. And only one team can be in one of both camps, so one wins and the other loses.

Geez, what's next...

Henri
