Hey, I can't watch that American version but we have the same contest over here in Belgium.

The funny thing is that all the winners turned out to be unsuccessful nobody's and the runners-up became the big stars, like f.i. Natalia who recently gave ten sold-out concerts with da Pointer Sisters, but lost in this contest in 2004.

Does the same thing happen in the good ol' US of A?

We get American Pop Idol broadcast over here and it is must see TV in our house. Simon Cowell has just completed a series of 'X' Factor which is the latest incarnation of Pop Idol here in the UK. So it's like he's never been away! It's a slightly different format and the winner went on to have the Christmas 'No1' and third biggest selling single in the UK of 2005.

As said earlier we get Pop Idol broadcast on satellite/cable on ITV2 on Fridays (repeated Sunday). It was reported today in the UK that it is the most successful export to the US ever and that Cowell has just signed a five year deal with Fox TV. The article also stated that Kelly Clarkson is the biggest selling artist of 2005 globally (not sure about that myself).

It is an amazing phenomena this show - and the relationship between Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon is fascinating. I am giving up gigging on Friday nights to watch it!! :o

Oh yes.. It was on last night, the Boston auditions and the first week in Hollywood. It is compulsory TV viewing on a Friday night in our household. I think last night's show began to show some of the talent. Like that 17 year old girl, the 16 year old girl with long hair and the grey haired guy are the 'stand-out' ones so far....we know Paula Abdul, Randy and of course Simon, but Ryan Seacrest - who is he? Why does he have his own paving stone in Hollywood - is he that big over in the US?

Glad your household is watching Headlamp. Is this your first season? It's really quite fun to watch it from the beginning this way . How about the guy who thought he sang alot like Cher !! And Simon told him he should do a drag routine! The guy was quite put off by that advice !

I'm getting a kick out of the lil' crying cowboy who'd never seen the ocean before ... can't help but like him . . but I sense his days are numbered
There's something about the shave headed guy who married the older woman with kids .... keepin' my eye on him ....

When they sing as groups ... thats when the real fun begins .........

It's actually our third!! The last one we watched through from the very beginning. Bo was the favourite in our household, I agree the young cowboy won't make the 'cut', nor the other young 16 year old boy....I do hope that girl who has laryngitis makes it through - I liked the sound of her.

We also have in the UK something called the X Factor, also done by Simon C, with Sharon Osbourne & another producer guy - Louis Walsh. The difference is that anyone of any age can compete and there is also a 'groups' section. When the vote is tallied at the end of the show, the lowest two are then prsented to the judges and they have to vote off one. Naturally they vote for the one that is not their act. Last year Louis kept his Irish folky band (The something Sisters) and voted off this amazing Soul singer (Marie). The controversy reigned for weeks both on the show and in the papers. Alas the best singers, two late thirty somethings, great soul singers, lost out to the young Justin Timberlake type - it just reflected the demographics of who watches these shows..
