I thought the same thing...and Ronstadt has always been one of my top three all-time favourite artists.

It's interesting to compare these competitors to single artists from the past....like Gedeon being compared to Sam Cooke or Joe Simon. Mandisa could be compared to Aretha. The nice thing about it is the refreshing difference to them compared to all the Britney and Beyonce look and sound-alikes. Pop music really needs some originality put back into it.

Whatever happened to the unique vocal styling of someone like Macy Gray? Kelly Clarkson is huge right now but to me, she's no different than all the others out there currently....yelling into a mic while some hyper video plays around her.

I suppose we be patient and see how it all pans out... Look at the phenemon of this show. They received the highest ratings over "Dancing With The Stars" final, Olympics, CSI & Survivor.

Although I much to not care for Chris Daughtry's rock music styles... I have an open mind and will want the best singer/performer to win over just r&b. As far as I'm concerned... Elliott can blow... hope he does well & it better be a dude this year.

Whenever Katharine gets up to the judges and they have something other than pleasant things to say to her critisism wise, she acts as thogh they are peons and she is way out of even their league. Now Brenna needs to just back her bags (and her fake ass smile) and kick rocks!

The guy that needs to go is obviously Kev or David.. :(

It was the "last dance" for Brenna last night. Goodbye!! :D :D :D :D

I was disappointed that Kevin didn't get kicked off. Is he going to be the Master P of this competition?

Something is going down here... you can just see it. Part of the show is staged you can tell for real now!

Just think, Randy Jackson pumping Kevin Covias?
Clean your ears Randy & Paula!

I think Paula was drunk last night... Wait 'til headlamp sees it.

3 hours and counting - there's also another 'talent' show running on BBC1 at the same time - which I'm sure you'll see a version of in the US at some stage called 'Just The Two Of Us' - basically a 'proper' singer teams up with a TV presenter, newsreader, or soap star and sings a duet and the UK gets to vote!!

My missus kinda likes the show although it lost it for me when last week Alexander O'Neal got kicked off/came bottom :o , two days ago Jocelyn Brown came last :o :o , and yesterday the UK's leading soul singer Beverley Knight lost out to a breakfast newsreader & Curt Stigers!! :o :o :o

Kevin is really going to be heartbroken when he discovers that America is giving him sympathy votes. I like the kid but he's not the next American Idol! I'm so glad Brenna got her ass booted too! Now her pimp can put her ass back on the corner in da ghetto where she belongs!!!!!!!! Next week will be better I hope with the damn song choices (granted they let em sing cool songs)

As I am writing this I can hear Sway on the TV singing his goodbye performance...I reckon the right people went home tonight - hopefully schnippy boy Kevin will go next week - he's soooo boring - shame about Sway, I thought he had it but alas not - I have to say another week like that one with everyone's song choices being pretty boring and the programme is going to loose a few million viewers!!

What is culturally different between you and us Brits is the whole country thing!! We just don't really have it over here - sure we've heard of Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton but it's kind of an 'under-culture' of music..it doesn't really cross 'the pond'. Mind you we have 'bashment', a sort of cross between hip-hop, punk, garage & bhangra, which will not really happen over on the other side of the Atlantic!!

Well at least it would have made her honest 8) She said some pretty crappy stuff pre-season and made her just ugly inside out to me.

In the early weeks of the competition most singers stay within the genre they feel comfortable with (e.g. rock, country) but when they have to sing different genres the men are separated from the boys. (or ladies from girls)

I'm trying to envision Bucky singing "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window".

I felt the same way about Gedeon... but luckily I'm finding ways to forget the "it" "you've got to have it" statement during the Top 24 picks... as far as Brenna is concerned, I wish she could sing.... oh well... she can't, bye bye Brenna.

Now that some of the very worst have been weeded out ......
not as bad tonight .

AYLA --- Got to admire a girl who's already seven feet tall, then wears her hair up high and w/ extra high heeled shoes to boot ...

PARIS - not bad .... but not great ...

MANDISA ---- If only she'd signed up for a season of "The Biggest Loser " first . Wide ass aside ....... hands down ..... the best ......

MELISSA --- Got my attention .....sort of a Cher/Chrissie Hynde persona in the raw .....

(about the show ...isn't the obsessive trying to one-up Simon wearing a bit thin??)

I'm a little disappointed in the girls this year. Only Mandisa really blew me away.

Katherine's version of "Think" was the only other performance I thought was passable.
