I'll give a brief rundown on some of the guys last night.

Elliott was my fave. He pulled off a Stevie Wonder song which not everyone could do. Needs a good stylist and a dentist to increase his popularity with the audience.

Patrick--Don't like this guy. He just doesn't connect with me. Think he will be gone in a few weeks.

David--Sounded like a lounge/karoke act in a Vegas hotel.

Bobby (?)--Sang Copacabana--Not a bad voice, but think his style will wear thin. He'll do well in Vegas but doesn't have the Wow factor for this show.

Ace--The girls will love him and he'll get by on that.

Taylor--Actually enjoyed his performance last night. He toned down the Ray Charles quirkiness which turned me off.

Sway--Didn't dig the pimpy falsetto act.

Bucky/Chris--Prefer Chris' voice, but not crazy about these guys that do rock. I think Chris will do well.

Kevin--He will probably go this week. Thought he was the weakest performance of the night. He looks really timid, has no stage presence.

The right two guys were booted.
The Manilow guy ..... looks like who'd you'd expect managing The Copacabana ( and hamming it up on its stage once in awhile ) ... or MC ing some lounge club.... he needs to get an agent ... character actor material ....

The right two gals were bumped too .....
although any of eight would've been fine ....

Blimey - I've just checked the TV schedule here we have American Idol from 20.30 till 00.50.....well over 4 hours of Simon!! BTW checked that watchidol site out and it is down.....on another note we think that Taylor Hicks has Aspergers (on the autistic spectrum).

Looking forward to it!!

Well we finally got to watch the show here in the UK last night - AcE, Sway & Patrick were the standout guys for me, the funny moment was when Simon said you've got have the the 'X' Factor to someone - he must have REALLY p*ssed off Nigel Lythgoe & Simon Fuller, the two creators of Idol as that is the name of his show here in the UK that usurped Pop Idol on Saturday nights leading up to Xmas!!

...........

Long night ...... seemed like an endless parade of self - adoring , yet not really all-that .... talents .... each making poor song choices to boot ...... even LAST DANCE fell flat .....

.... odds of any being the winner :

AYLA --- best chance of the long shots
PARIS --- even money
MANDISA --- favored four to one

Mandisa reminds me of a budding Jennifer Holliday, Loleatta Holloway or Cheryl Lynn. She may not be American Idol material but I could see her providing vocals for future dancefloor hits. Another disco diva! :)

The guys that got the wow tonight....

Top Singers:
Elliott
Chris

Middle of the Pack:
Taylor
Gedeon
Sway
Buckey
Ace

On The Bubble:
David
Will
Kevin

I knew that Elliott wouldn't be a 1 song wonder... I voted for him 5 times  sway 2

not worried about Taylor... we need him on the show, he provides entertainment value and he's a good singer.

If I was David... i'd bow out of the competition... just for his sake I wish they'd vote him out because it's embarrasing... oh well.

Will... pick the right song you dope!

Kevin... if you make the Top 6, oh brother. They are really pumping this kid...

btw... I was pleasently surprised by Gedeon's performance... stop showing the segment about the "it.... you've got to have it" and I can forgive him... he just rubbed me the wrong way with those comments on Top 25 day.

Who should go tonight?

Girls: Brenna--she's no Donna Summer

I can't recall any of the other girls performances.

Boys: Kevin or David

Btw--I don't care much for Ace, but all the girls love him so he'll be around for a while. Keep pushing that hair back dude.

I think definitely Chris is the one to beat. His performance this week was pure professional and confident. I didn't sit there waiting to cringe on hearing a sour note....and those warm, brown eyes...ooh la la....

Having not watched too many episodes of American Idol in the past, I do have to wonder just how much of it is staged. This week, it's been about poor song choice. I can't imagine that the choices are entirely those of the competitors. For instance, why would that one young guy (the Peter Brady look-alike) choose the song 'Lady'? From his talk with Ryan Seacrest, he told him that he had never heard the song before so why would he choose it for the competition?

I'm assuming they're given a list of songs to choose from but at this stage of the game, I'm sure there are people in the background pulling most of the strings telling them the song they need to practice because this is what they're going to sing.

American Idol is an interesting show because it, at least, demonstrates raw talent and sincere passion...before the artist goes thru rigorous training exercises, strict diets, plastic surgery and complete makeovers while having their voices totally altered with technology and oozing sexual appeal thru their high budget videos on the way to 'superstardom'.

Chris Daughtry is refreshingly masculine. The sideburns are a little weird for me, but he definitely has the "it" factor.

I agree it's his competition to lose... however, I feel that one of the contestants can sneek up and take it from him. Namely Mandisa or Elliott... Katharine sounds like Linda Ronstadt in some parts... which is kinda throwback...
