As predicted the new American Idol is Taylor Hicks.

I enjoyed hearing them sing the Burt Bacharach songs and how about that Clay Aiken and his new hairdo. He'll be a real man magnet now. :-P

So when do we reckon will we find Mendisa belting away with the likes of Masters At Work, Frankie Knuckles, Maurice Joshua, Soulfuric or (a great fit) Jasper Street Co.

My other predictions:

- A fine career for Taylor as session and commercials singer, with every now and again a classy, niche album in the vein of (separated at birth) Michael McDonald or Daryl Hall. I will most likely buy those albums. As long as he does not go "Joe Cocker".
- A fine career as lead in musicals and small jazz clubs for Katherine.
- Elliott will release an album that will sound like (separated at birth) Jamiroquai. I will buy that album.
- The rest... we will not hear from them again.

I, too, enjoyed the Burt Bacharach thing very much. There was a long period of collaboration with him and Carol Bayer Sager, but somewhere I seem to recall a major falling out and they hate each other. I may well be wrong. My favorite Bacharach songs: Gladys Knight "Love is fire (love is ice)", El DeBarge with "Love always" and two by, believe it or not, Neil Diamond: "I'll see you on the radio (Laura)" and "Me beside you" (and yes, you should check these out!).

Prince is weird (using as much cosmetics now as Michael Jackson).

Dionne Warwick did seem a bit "pitchy" as Randy Jackson would have said. I had the feeling she was not singing in her favorite key.

Mary J. Blige... what was she thinking with that song.

I am already looking forward to the next season... and this the first time I ever watched a so-called reality TV show, from beginning to end!

Wooooah!! I stayed away from here all day to that I could watch the final 'in the dark'. The show has just finished and our favourite from the auditions won!! Amazing!

I have to say that was an amazing TV show!! The guests were fantastic, they just got better and better (although Meatloaf looked a bit ill). His Royal Shortiness (AKA Prince) was pretty amazing too! I kept thinking about all the rehersals to get there, the amount of production, and the way it flowed (although we do get it edited).

I have to tell you that I nearly fell off my chair when the 'adjudicator' or counter of the votes came out....Mr. Edward Boddington is an old client of mine - and I used to know him very well. He used to run a telemarketing company in Camden Town, when I used to visit him!

Anyway, great show, great result, great series, great thread!!

Talking Re: American Idol Season 5, 2006

After Chris was booted I assumed Taylor would take it all. I'm not unhappy with that - although I would much rather have seen Mandisa go further than she did.

Thank G*d I no longer have a weekly threat of seeing Kelly Pickler on my TV.

What the hell was up with the guest perfomrers? What was wrong with Meatloaf? Was Toni Braxton's mic off? I like Mary J. but all that drama scares me! Al Jarreau singing a love song with a 16 year old...ick.

Man...another 7 months until the next season. I'm going to be lost!!!

I missed the finale!!!

My first year watching the season from start to finish all coming down to the final hours of seeing who America chose to be their 'idol' and I'm caught between connecting flights in Chicago (of course) trying to find my way home!

I figured Taylor would win.....I don't think he ended up in the bottom of any of the voting over the last few weeks. Katharine was there a couple of times.

I caught the two on Larry King last night (unfortunately it was Seacrest hosting). I honestly can't picture Taylor becoming a huge sensation. He's not 'bend-able' enough and probably a bit too wise to be manipulated. Watching both of them at this stage, I truly hope the world of showbiz is kind to them. Katharine has an incredibly bright smile and natural beauty that will take her places...hopefully more in the mode of Broadway than the here-today/gone-five-minutes-from-now, trashy, confused world of American pop music.

BTW....where does one find the icons now to put into their messages??? I see the icons to put in the title but how do you put them in the message (like right now I'd put in a confused smiley face.) Someone help me!

hi guys... ever since we changed to this new forum... I'm not getting replies thru the e-mail system. I've got to figure out how to fix this problem.

Anyways... kinda disappointed that Kat got the #2 spot.

My favorite contestant Elliott... could have a bright future. However, the #3 spot has not been good to contestants from yesteryears.

Taylor Hicks???? I don't get it.

Chris was an overrated one trick pony who was a bit too full of himself. Good riddance. Not that I feel strongly about him :-)

Wink Re: American Idol Season 5, 2006

Hey Angelina - you are totally right in saying that Chris has more talent than all of us. Probably true for all of the final 6. Although I do fancy myself as a raw karaoke talent...

And like I said, I can not wait for next season. I am not sure what to make of all the Idol wannabe programs slated for TV in the next few weeks. I saw ABC, FOX and NBC all launching talent search type shows. And funnily enough they're all launching in Summer, which is exactly where Idol once started if my memory serves me correct.

Cheers!
