boy oh boy the reviews are all over the board tonight.... with some of you not giving a damn. the unusual theme weeks are killing the contestants as they move along in their journey. this week should be very interesting as we sing the standards of the 50's. :D if I was a rocker fan... I will think it will be a boring week... but guess what... I have a feeling this could work in everybody's favor.

***** I found myself liking Bucky more and more .... he's got a singing career out of this .... From here on out ....it'll be sad to see any of them go ... I found each of their personal lives to be very moving ,,.. i don't think any of them have had it easy ( maybe Ace) .... not fair though .. taints my thinking ....I prefer it to be just about the raw talent. But as presented .... they each seem like truly decent folk. Yikes ... Elliot in the bottom three. Well at least I got to hear him sing again that way . It was rather shameless the way the judges so openly expressed their favoritism toward him ............... even though I agree . *****

Oh boy , I was diggin' the eyeliner on Chris!!! Hubba hubba! Anyhow, I thought Paris was great! Kellie was average as well as Taylor. Katherine was okay...But Chris still has the vote from my girls and I. My son liked Bucky so he was berry sadded he left!

We stayed in (still on UK time) and watched both episodes and we voted for......Taylor!! This was based on the night's performance as it was the only one that had us smiling and tapping our feet. I thought Ace was awful, worse than Bucky. Catherine was great. We were wondering during the little profile bit, where are Kelly's parents - only her Grandfather and little brother featured. She did OK with that song...could have been worse. Paris disappointed, as did Elliot. It was great to watch live - the UK edition I have now learned is heavily edited but you have so many ad breaks!!! |

I loved it when she said to Simon in her strong Southern drawl - "....but I don't have an accent!!" |

Last night was definitely Paris' night. Katherine would be my second choice. I'd say Ace should go tonight.

***** It has to be eye opening for the kids within this , and Chris too, to have learn to vocalize and stay true to these real songs from way back ..... Was Rod Stewart any help at all ? Or did he just fart around .... The Headlampers will be pleased they rescued Taylor from the chopping block . He does them proud this week. Katherane impresses more than deserved . She looses power by the end of her phrasing and squawks here and there . Yet there's something about her that forgives this .... the oo la la factor .... perfect song choice for one who emits an aura of volunerability .... Kelly was doing so well .... then it collapsed in the middle Chris was Chris ..... A+ I want to hear Ace do a George Michael song ..... Paris was Paris ..... A+ Goodbye Elliott    *****

Chris--- definitely can sing... but his performance was out shadowed by others. Taylor--- redemed himself... although the first part of the song was good... the ending was vintage and original. Paris--- that was a Top 3 performance... good for her! Kellie--- I record all the shows... I was tempted to put it on pause. Elliott--- just another solid performance by him... to bad he lacks the looks and personality. Ace--- I was shocked by the look... however the Ninja pony tail was weird. Nice to see this grubby american look disappear for one night. Katharine--- just another solid performance... nice to know who can really sing and who is one of the best vocalists of this year.

Who knew that Great American Songbook Standards would be the ticket to redemption for most of the kidz last night????? Kellie screwed up and got ahead of the orchestra in the last part of her "Bewtched, Bothered & Bewildered" cover. I thought she was charming prior to that and looked HOT--She has IT--IT may be limited--but she has IT. Great dress, hair, makeup, bod....it will be interesting to see if her flubs relegate her to the bottom 3--I somehow think they won't...but they might. Katharine was a pro and is very camera savvy...she was totally in her element; Chris abandoned his rocker schtick and crooned admirably. I want last week's beard back--he's HOTTER that way. Paris was very classy--reminded me of her audition when she did Billie Holiday and wowed me. Ace did well--but he's close to his expiration date. Ditto Elliott--Someone remarked on TV that he looks like "the guy you buy drugs from"; I'd cast Seth Green as Elliott!!! I think he may be tonight's "HAD A BAD DAY" boy. And finally Taylor--who I totally don't get...but seems to have a fan base....I can't believe that he would ever be allowed to WIN THIS CONTEST....maybe the "Vote For The Worst" crowd are supporting him now???? So for bottom 3: 1) Elliott 2) Taylor (wishful thinking on my part!) 3) Ace.....but maybe Kellie...if a performance even matters....(and I doubt that it does most weeks) :-?

(You knew I couldn't resist taking a break from work and posting on THIS topic, right, Marky??!) First of all, the judges commented repeatedly that the contestants were doin' their thang and workin' it out and haven't sounded so good in weeks... but none of them seemed to make the connection that they had much better material to work with this week than they've had since "Songs of the '50s" week. Nothing among the "Songs of the New Millennium" (or whatever the theme was for that crappy 2000-2006 week) nor most country songs give a vocalist as much to work with--lyrics, melody, etc.--as classic standards do. No wonder they sounded elegant... or eloquent... whatever, Paula. Paris was impressive, very much like a seasoned jazz vocalist... which is far preferable to being a Beyonce wannabe. Katherine too looked like a total pro. I think she'll wind up in the Final Two--not only because she's talented, but also because she's bland enough that she doesn't inspire stong negative reactions like some of the other contestants. (I think she's being very subtly showcased by the producers, who would like nothing better than a blank slate in the recording studio.) Kellie is one of the contestants the audience seems divided over. Last night was probably her worst performance yet, but she'll stick around for a few more weeks on the strength of her personality, which people either love or hate. I have to admit I thought she was charming during her review. (Kellie is the contestant currently being pushed by Vote for the Worst, btw.) I have to admit too that I like Elliott: pleasant voice and seems like a nice guy. But even with the re-styling, he's still sometimes awkward to look at, and he frequently seems nervous on stage. I'm worried about his chances. Taylor is entertaining but I think has a limited range. He probably would have done a great job on some actual Rod Stewart songs (likewise on songs by Michael McDonald or Blood Sweat & Tears), but Simon was right: bad Karaoke at the start, until Taylor must have realized, "Uh, I'd better kick it into gear." Ace. Ugh. His camera-f*cking looks more like a deer caught in the headlights and he never fails to fall back on that thin falsetto that only dogs and tween-age girls can hear. Oh, yeah: Get a haircut! In his pre-song interview last night I decided he looked like Ellen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy. And Chris. Well, he finally did a song that didn't invove his demonic moaning, but I have never liked that sappy song he chose. Worse, he's back to those stupid-looking S-shaped sideburns. (I thought the beard looked hot too, Marky!) Ace ought to get the boot tonight, but I won't be surprised if Elliott is (undeservedly) sent home.

Honestly I was bored shittless. I mean after 12 hours interning at the hospital, 8 hours working at the studio, I was pissed that everyone sang such crappy songs. Katherine (no matter how much I don't like her) sounded good. Chris was good (of course) but the damn songs sucked majorly. Maybe I'm just too tired these days to enjoy it. I want Chris to belt ou a Led Zeppelin song and win my heart (as if he hasn't already)

***** efunk --- Elliott remains my fave. But last week he was one of the bottom two . And I didn't see him do enough this week to rise above that . Ace at least changed his hair ....that's something!! ( BTW .... Taylor is now shaping his brows ....up off his eyes .... but I don't think he put in the same degree of effort as Chris, whos next week will probably be s- shaped to match his burns .... ) *****
