Default Happy Holidays????????

This was just on our evening news: Americans are fighting the battle of political correctness! It seems there's a whole battle going on on what you wish to people nowadays, in this festive period.

Some want to see "Merry Christmas" replaced by "Happy Holidays" and a "Christmas Tree" must be called a "Holiday Tree". Even the Prez is criticised for using the term "Happy Holidays" on his wishing cards.

What's suddenly so wrong with Merry Christmas??????

Compromise: Say it in Dutch!

Or say it in Spanish:

Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo (Merry Christmas and Happy New Year).

There should be a tilde over the n in Ano. :D

It is far too easy for non-Spanish speakers to mispronounce it as "Happy New Anus".

I've heard about this but it's overstated. I sense 2 things here. First, I think it's mostly right wing media demagogues blowing this thing way outta proportion. They do it to distract the sheep about Bush's failed policies on every front except lining the pockets of his wealthy supporters.
Secondly, the whining about saying Happy Holidays over Merry Xmas plays well with those christians who love to feel persecuted.

"Christmas" has in reality nothing to do with Jesus BTW. 25 of December is originally the birthday of the Roman god "Mitras".

It was the Roman general Julius Africanus who became a Christian that set this date to be the birthday of Jesus.

And the "Christmas Tree" is in fact an old Germanic paganist's symbol thus a Wicca ritual!

And for once the President is not endorsing the strict evangelistic politics, he's once again criticised. I just hope the next Democratic president won't be too dissapointing for you guys :o

Mr. and Mrs. Ketchup, grand theft Hilary or why not, the holy Hugo Chavez, the biggest fraud after Fidelio Castrato. The man who's good friends with the raving lunatics of the world like the ayatollahs. Be careful for the right wing propanganda but keep your eyes wide open for the leftist wizzards of posh.
BTW, Merry Christmas my friends . :D

I here ya on the xmas history Johan. In fact the early christian settlers in the US rejected Christmas because of it's "pagan" roots. How ironic now to see the fundementalist christian minority go ape over Happy Holidays. It's those people who are upset with bush's Happy Holidays.

This is where we part company Johan Hugo is supplying discounted heating oil via Citgo. Citgo is a petroleum company owned by the Venezualan government. While it is easy to have political differences when you are in a warm house, some peolple may not have that luxury. Bush and his republican government promised a few months back to help with heating oil due to the high prices. As usual it was all talk. They did nothing and are off for the holidays. Fuck the little people right. Anyway it was some Dem congress people who worked out a deal with Hugo to get discounted oil. Republicans talk the talk and are about slogans that engage in no critical thinking or actually resolving issues. Dems walk the walk the walk!
On behalf of many Americans I say thank you Hugo 8)

Yes I know Paul, I saw it on the news that he supplied that cheap oil to the poor families and that's indeed the task of the US government.

But....always keep in mind that all dictators (left and right) have started with such charity. Then they get a political victory, they are strongly in power and then the shit hits the fence!

Everybody who doesn't agree with them is suspect, they "dissapear" and the once charming revolutionaries suddenly change into bloody tyrants. You're a smart guy Paul, you must know that!

Remember Fidel? Freedom of expression in Cuba? Freedom of choice in Cuba? High standards of living for the Cubans? Free elections in Cuba? I don't think so. Is this all the result of the American boycot? Be serious, no! This is the result when fundamentalists come in power! Their doctrines are the right ones and they don't tolerate other views.

You think a discussion board like this would be tolerated over there? No way! One of my Bumpercartracks is doing in tour in China and when my staff wants to contact me over the net, they are almost under surveillance of the Chinese autorities and then I'm not even speaking of the corrupt and law-breaking officials. That's the country of the great visionary idiot and moron Mao! He also started as a "friend of the people" remember?

And a guy like holy Hugo who's so close and friendly with one of those pigs that are behind the deathly attacks on many innocent Western people looks very suspicious to me.

In Belgium, over the last weeks a hard dispute is going on over the rise of censorship and the limitation of freedom of expression that's evolving in our Kingdom. And you know who caused the incidents? No, not the rightwingers but Socialists and extreme leftists.

They bring every person to court who is saying that quote "we have to be careful with the rise of Islam in Europe"-end quote.

That's already considered as racism.

On the other hand, there was a case against Belgian singer Raymond Van Het Groenewoud for his recent song with the title "F*ck America" where he ridiculises and insults your great country and its people:

http://www.raymondvanhetgroenewoud.b...en/amerika.htm

This case was rejected coz' the leftists (yes the socialists) said this was justified and thus it could not be considered as racism

That's the new political correctness in some states of Europe. Helping victims of the Tsunami and the earthquake in Pakistan is our duty but what did our governments do for the poor Americans whose lives were devastated by the hurricanes?

Almost nothing! No collections, no telethons. When they showed the terrible images on the evening news the commentators were making jokes about it.(Look at those Americans!)

Remember Bernie's topic about the common sense?

Keep in mind Johan that Chavez was twice democratically elected and remains hugely popular with a majority of Venezuluans. So calling him a dictator is incorrect. The second election by the way came about as a result of a failed coup supported by Bush. Here's a bit of irony. This coup attempt came just after 9/11. Many Americans at the time were asking "why they hate us?"
Your point is well taken about dictators and I do not support that.
As for our freedoms, in particular freedom of speech, funny you should mention that. It's been revealed recently that the Pentagon is spying on Americans. Not terribly new since I remember this back during the Vietnam days. Now they've lessen the restrictions. I've been hearing they've targeted blogs (like this one), anti-war activist, and Dean For America people. I fall into all 3 categories :o
These are dark times. I've heard though that not all in the Pentagon favor such un-American activities and they are the source of this info. In other words they are putting the word out in hopes people can pull in the reins on this regime.
Anyway, here's one article on this. By the way, I love bush, I love bush... 8)

Listen to another "Useful fool" thanking our busy enemies trying to divide and conquer, give you a bit of info, Chavez is one of the main reasons why oil is so expensive to begin with, he's been pushing OPEC to raise prices for many years to squeeze America and finance leftist revolts around South America, and especially to finance his stay in power by giving away free hand outs to his leftist supporters.

Hey Paul, Have you ever met a Venezuelan? remember there is a big difference between what Salon.com prints and the truth, and the only people that claims Bush supported the Coup is you and your leftist friends, including Chavez of course.

Chavez IS a Dictator! He's changing the laws with his cronies in congress and courts and is slowly dismantaling all democratic institutions, including the free press that has been intimidated into silence.
Do you know that they pass a broad law where any one that says anything that causes a public demostration or anti goverment sentiment can be arrested ?, TV station or Papers can be shut down?

as a result opposing political commentary is non existent on the air as editors and News directors stay away from political controversy to avoid punishment, even popular talk Radio show hosts cut off callers expressing goverment opposition, they play the Video version down here, Do you get to see this shows in your neck of the woods Paul? You should seek them out, may be you'll get a better idea of who you are supporting.

did you read how a few months back Chavez confiscated Heinz catchup plant? I'm sure what his name that ran for prez? was not very amused, the "referendum" you speak of was a fraud affair, and guess who was over seeing the results, Jimmy Carter! need I say more ?

And just last week the majorty of the voters that participated in last election boycotted the congressional elections in an act of "No confidence" on Chavez's rule, despite the embarrasment ( Blamed on who else , the US) Chavez won any ways and is now changing presidential limits to stay in power for ever!!!
