| Never heard of it! Some rock funk/funk rock goodies that I do remember though, are: James Gang - Funk #49 (and Funk #48 too!) Rare Earth - I Just Want To Celebrate Johnny Winter Band - Rock & Roll Hoochie Coo Edgar Winter Band - Frankenstein That's the ones that spring immediately to mind, although it's quite a difficult genre to pin down. When does rock become soulful, or funk become disco? e.g. The Isley's Live It Up has a rocky edge, but could it truly be called rock funk? Could Shack Up - Banbarra be called rock funk? It's certainly hard as nails, has a slightly rock driven rhythm track and has an agressive rocky instrumental second half / 'b' side to the 7" single. A difficult one to call. |

| Quinny, I would call ISLEY BROTHERS - LIVE IT UP rock/funk... I can't believe you never heard of the one above I mentioned... Pull out your ISLEY BROTHERS - GO FOR YOUR GUNS (LP) and check it out... all of my stoner/rock friends liked this song... plus they played it on a major Rock Station back in the day... |

| Funkadelic and most of the Funk Mob were definitely there (many goodies here - Funkadelic's 'Super Stupid' is a banger). Even some of the later offshoots, like Jerome Brailey's Mutiny, released brilliant funk LPs with a heavy metal touch. Not straying too far from the P., the Ron Dunbar-produced 8th Day came up with the goods also. 'Rocks In My Head' and 'It's Instrumental To Be Free' (basically a remix of The Politicians' 'Free Your Mind') are two standout funky rockers.

| Rock Funk favorites?? How are we to define that term? Is it funky tracks done by rock bands not normally known to do so or vice versa? I'll agree that the isley's did deal with rock like stuff in the mid 70s....guess Ernie Isley was largely responsible for moving the group in that direction. I never cared much for those tracks though...I always prefered the ballads. |
