Default Teena Marie CDs

She's one of my all-time favourite artists & I have many of her records but only have 2 CDs (a compilation of her Motown stuff & another of her Epic stuff.) I've decided to get her re-issued LPs on CD such as 'Irons In The Fire' & 'It Must Be Magic' but cannot understand why 'Lady T' isn't on CD; surely this was her biggest LP as it contains her biggest crossover hit 'Behind The Groove'. How annoying! Does anyone know if its on Japanese CD or something like that?

I haven't been able to find that CD either! However, with Motown cashing in on it's vault of material, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a CD release sometime in the future.

Did you know that album was produced by Minnie Riperton's husband, Richard Rudolph (their daughter, Maya Rudolph, is doing very well for herself on Saturday Night Live these days!)?

I've had 'Lady T' on US CD since about '92, so it's been out since the '80s, possibly. I can only assume that it's on its way again. Labels are funny like that - all the pre-'86 Cameo LPs had been available on CD in Japan (and a few, like 'Secret Omen', were issued in the US) but the one that was never issued anywhere until last year was 'Ugly Ego'. That was a bit annoying - every other Chocolate City & Atlanta Artists date except that one. I'd still like to know why. :-?

Yes keefelc I did know that he produced that LP & only last week I incorrectly used his name instead of Richard Benjamin's in a discussion about film actors!! :-? (I'm so obsessed with music it rules my every thought & action!!)

According to AMG most of the Teena Marie albums are available through Barnes & Noble. The exceptions are "Lady T", "It Must Be Magic" and her 1979 debut "Wild & Peaceful".
Of course, these are the ones I do not own

Teena Marie has just released a brand new album too. Has anyone heard or even bought it? I't out on a (i think) US indie label named Cash Money.

I don't tend to bother with her current material as I was a bit disappointed with some of her more recent stuff, not that it's bad, just that like so many once great r'n'b/disco artists Teena's music has sorta moved on to a very different sound (I wouldn't expect a creative artist to stick with the same sound forever, but my taste generally belongs to a very particular era & sound, with some contemporary exceptions like Frank McComb & Tom Craft who I grudgingly like!)

Didn't know they had famous offspring. Looks a bit like Kate Bush!

Yep, Maya ( remember the "maya, maya, maya, maya" at the end of Minnie's "Lovin' You"???) is a very funny comedienne on SNL--she has a good singing voice, so she gets to impersonate the black divas of course--but she also does nerdy characters and old black ghetto ladies looking for new drawers (underwear) at Victoria's Secret, etc.

She's quite talented.

Teena's new CD is released in the U.S. tomorrow, May 11, 2004. I think it's called "La Donna". They have it on sale at Best Buy and Circuit City for $9.99, so I might check it out.

Teena's new CD is mentioned in AllMusic.com as "Dona", but actually it's called "La Doņa" (you can see it in the CD cover). BTW, Teena looks quite good.
"La Doņa" means in Spanish something like "The Mistress".
