| A different type of 'mix' of mine has just gone online, more geared to radio than clubs (although there are still plenty of great club tunes included). Definitely one for the Soul/Funk heads. Hope you enjoy: http://radio.sixmillionsteps.com |

| I enjoyed your mix very much thanks Greg. Can I just ask which LP the Chic track 'Open Up' is from as it's brilliant & I've never heard it before (it's on the 1st Norman Jay mix).

| Thanx Greg. I never bothered with Chic's stuff post-Risqué. Very dismissive & unadventurous of me I know! :(

| Greg: I was getting excited when I heard Ben E King's Supernatural Thing. I was waiting for Jimmy Ruffin - Tell Me What You Want and then George Soule - Get Involved popped into my brain......all to no avail. I must have mixed those together BITD. Never mind. An eclectic selection of tracks. It was good to hear Phone Home and of course Mike T - Do It Anyway You Wanna (why don't more people like/know this track?) Captain Rapp - Bad Times.......Yowsah. RJ's Latest Arrival - Ultimate Masterpiece (you left in the real cheesey sound FX, I laughed my ass off at the drill as I always do) Yep. I'd be interested to hear your rationale behind the trax you chose and how much pre prod time went into it?. No nasty intentions or anything. |

I only knew of Linda Jones from a mid-70's album called 'It's All Platinum', which included 'Your Precious Love', until someone who used to go out on the Northern Soul scene tuned me into 'My Heart Needs A Break' alongside some other tunes by different artists that you'll no doubt know ('That's Not Love', 'Send Him Back', 'Conscience' etc). What a voice - absolutely unbelievable! Like you say, it seems she was destined to became a major star, but, sadly, it wasn't to be. Thankfully the Northern Soul scene has kept her memory alive, otherwise a unique talent would be more or less completely forgotten. For those who haven't heard of Linda Jones I seriously recommend you give your ears a treat and check her out (you can find 'My Heart Needs A Break' at 19.10 on the mix). The track at 54 minutes is 'Strut' by Chico Hamilton, which was a huge on the Jazz-Funk scene around the time I came to Wigan Pier (1980). I'd forgotten all about the Gap Mangione tune you mentioned, a cover of an old Zombies track - must try to dig that out. |

I didn't want to put together a mix in the conventional sense, more of a selection of continuous music, all linked together. The tracks I chose reflect where I'm coming from with regards to black music - covering R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz-Funk, Electro-Funk and Hip Hop. I put it together over a couple of nights, the first selecting all the tracks and link parts / samples, the second piecing it all together. |

| Hi Greg, great mix (not mix)! I was just wondering how you put it together? Did you use a computer? |

| Thanks efunk_adelic and marko. BTW efunk, can't take credit for the scratching - it's courtesy of Kenny Dope (from album - 'Strange Games And Funky Things III'). However, I did edit his scratch version with the original of 'Free', so it does have its own unique angle! |
