| 1. Shirley Horn - "Here's To Life" 2. Gene Harris - "The Concord Years" 2CD - Concord 3. Tony Bennett - "The Art Of Excellence" - featuring a little-known duet with late Ray Charles of "Everybody Has The Blues" by James Taylor that's the bomb - Columbia 4. Etta Jones - "Doin' What She Does Best" - Savoy Jazz 5. Houston Person - "My Romance" - High Note 6. Frank Sinatra - "Sinatra/Jobim" - Reprise 7. Stan Getz - "Jazz Round Midnight - Bossa Nova" - Polygram 8. Etta James - "Mystery Lady" - Private Music 9. Billie Holiday - "Lady In Satin" - Digital Remaster with outtakes - Columbia 10. Frank Sinatra - "Frank Sinatra" - Reprise 4-CD set w/booklet. Favorite new artists include: vocalist Diane Linscott, (her last album, a '98 indie, "I Love Being Here With You" is available used on Amazon or by emailing dljazz@yahoo.com). Richie Hart, blues magician, just played my club and is accompanied by three cats with credentials as long as your arm, including my friend Pete Levin on the Hammond B3. The album, "Blues in the Alley" will be on shelves November 3. Finally, I noticed in a posting above that someone misspelled Joey Defrancesco's name; I have most of his oeuvre. It's a damn shame that his "Falling in Love with Love" - Concord was nominated for "Best Jazz Solo Performance" Grammy but didn't win -- Chick Corea got it... like HE needs another Grammy. Defrancesco appears on this album with a singer named "Joe Doggs." Listen carefully to the vocalist; and then look at the fact that he's neither pictured too clearly nor are his other works described at all in a lengthy and glowing liner note by The Master -- Quincy Jones -- himself. You know why? Joe Doggs just happens to be the jazz vocalist stage name for none other than actor Joe Pesci! All the best, Paul - a.k.a. JudyDoggie

| To Forrrce: I noticed a number of Gil Evans discs in your "10s." My friend Pete Levin has played on a number of them. See his discography at www.petelevin.com. I think you'll like his style. If you're in USA on East Coast this weekend you can hear him play in CT. www.asianfusion.net/szetok click on "jazz."

| Dear K-Bee: It's well-known in Hollywood circles that Mr. Pesci loves to sing songs, especially those from the American Standard Songbook. It's well-known in jazz circles, that Pesci's a big fan of DeFrancesco (jazz is my business). If you don't have "Falling in Love With Love," by all means either buy it or go on Amazon.com and listen to the clips and you'll know what I mean. Mr. DeFrancesco's sense of humour is memorable, as well. To see him in concert, or better, meet him, is to love the guy! Listen to the record and you tell ME that it isn't Joe Pesci singing. (And it ISN'T "Little" Jimmy Smith, either). Paul - a.k.a. Judydoggie

| Dear Quinny: Why not try my friend Pete Levin and the Pete Levin Trio (Mike DeMicco, Guitar; Peter O'Brien, Drums). I can't speak for what Pete would charge to go "across the pond," and I KNOW that getting a B-3 over there for him would have to be a rental 'cause air shipping is far too expensive -- however, he's got a great sound and his group's a great organ group in a neo-modern sense of the word. | JudyDoggie: Hmmm. It would cost an arm and a leg and how many would come along for an unknown trio? Nice idea, but I think we both know it could never work. |

| Quinny, speak for yourself. I've won a lot (and lost a bit) taking risks. The bigger the risk, the bigger the payoff. I'm sure that Pete would give you plenty of advance stuff to play on the radio stations that support jazz, etc. And what about your e-mailing list? Do they trust you? I never over-sell anything to my loyal customers; and I typically add a link in the emails to hook them up with a clip of what they're going to hear, especially if I've booked a relatively unknown group. If I tell my customers the act is worth their time, they come out! I'm sorry you had so much trouble with Joey D's people. The more I think about it, he just wants to stay stateside. At least that's what it seems like to me. His management team is very, very aggressive but one needs to stand one's ground with 'em. I say fuck 'em 'cause they're selling him like he WON the grammy and he DIDN'T. - Paul a.k.a. JudyDoggie

| JudyD: I don't know how big you think the Jazz market is in dear old Blighty, but it ain't big enough. Generally speaking, we struggle to convince people of the worthiness of the bands we book, even though our programme is one of the very best Jazz club programmes outside of London. It's frustrating as hell to see really good players week after week and relatively small audiences. Only a BIG name attracts anything like the right number of punters. Americans normally pull in a few more, but even when we had Bud Shank a few years back, we only had an audience of 150 or so. It wasn't 'cos people didn't know about it. |

| Now, I dig you. I guess the Brits are the polar opposites of the Japanese, where nowadays jazz rules (peculiarly, the people of color who perform jazz are the most popular). The Chinese are right behind 'em. A well-known Japanese label just CD re-released a very rare Mort-Figa produced Bobbi Rogers vocal album first released on vinyl in 1970 -- and you're having trouble drawing 150 souls for a major U.S. name. You could always move East. You must know that the former USSR as well as other spots (Croatia, of all places) are hotbeds for jazz -- (just kidding). You've really got a conundrum on your hands, mate. You may have to exist merely as an oasis in a musical wasteland. My best to you, Quinny! Paul - a.k.a. Judydoggie paul@asianfusion.net
