| All I can say is this: If you love this lady like I do, then pick up the new UK import on the Expansion label, Phyllis Hyman - "In Between The Heartaches ~ The Soul Of A Diva". 16 tracks of pure joy. Some "previously unreleased" material along with previously unreleased versions of songs you already know. The cd quality is excellent and Phyllis will have you laughing, crying and wishing you were there 'in between those heartaches'. A gift taken way to soon... Track List: 1. Love Surrounds Us Everywhere (w/McCoy Tyner) 5:13 2. *If You Ever Change Your Mind 2:58 3. *Hottest Love Around 4:30 8) 4. *Do You Love Him (Fast Version) 3:26 5. Sleep On It 3:20 6. | Good call, Nicky. This will definitely have to be investigated, as my P.H. section has been long neglected and is, er...dusty, shall we say. A little fairy appeared on my shoulder just now and told me I was last seen playing 'Love Surrounds Us Everywhere' and 'Children Of The World' in short-pants and sporting a full head of hair! |

| I can't wait to get my hands on this one!!!! Is it only available on the web??? I looked at Amoeba last weekend and it was not there. I know it's one of those David Nathan releases, right? I've long wanted the gorgeous "In Search Of My Heart" from a McCoy Tyner LP on CD. The boys at Aloha Records turned me on to this one!!! :D AND I can't wait to hear Miss Phyllis do the Bacharach/David gem "In Between The Heartaches" (an old Dionne Warwick LP cut...also on the new Ronald Isley/Bacharach collaboration). This is one of those half-forgotten treasures that woulda, coulda, shoulda been a bigger hit. Check out Dionne's CD "Hidden Gems: Greatest Hits, Vol 2" for more wonderful, little-known songs: AMG says: Turning the spotlight on various rarities, B-sides, and album cuts, Hidden Gems reminds us that some of Dionne Warwick's best work with the prolific Burt Bacharach/Hal David team received little or no radio airplay. In retrospect, it's hard to believe that Warwick's versions of "What the World Needs Now Is Love," "The Look of Love" (also recorded by Isaac Hayes, Anita Baker, and countless others), and "Make It Easy on Yourself" (a smash for Jerry Butler) weren't major hits. They certainly deserved to be, as did the hauntingly pretty "Any Old Time of the Day" ("Walk on By"'s B-side) and "They Long to Be (Close to You)." For those who might have overlooked this fine material, Hidden Gems is quite a revelation. — Alex Henderson 1. I Smiled Yesterday (Bacharach/David) - 2:44 2. Wishin' and Hopin' (Bacharach/David) - 2:55 3. Unlucky[*] (Banks/Shockley) - 2:25 4. Make It Easy on Yourself (Bacharach/David) - 2:40 5. I Cry Alone[*] (Bacharach/David) - 2:37 6. Make the Music Play (Bacharach/David) - 2:25 7. Any Old Time of Day (Bacharach/David) - 3:08 8. Close to You (Bacharach/David) - 2:23 9. In the Land of Make Believe[*] (Bacharach/David) - 3:03 10. How Many Days of Sadness[*] (Bacharach/David) - 3:26 11. You Can Have Him (Cook) - 4:01 12. Here I Am (Bacharach/David) - 2:50 13. This Little Light[*] (Traditional) - 2:10 14. What the World Needs Now Is Love (Bacharach/David) - 3:14 15. Let Me Be Lonely (Bacharach/David) - 3:35 16. Who Is Gonna Love Me? (Bacharach/David) - 3:11 17. This Girl's in Love With You (Bacharach/David) - 4:13 18. Slaves[*] (Kessler/Scott) - 3:09 19. The Look of Love (Bacharach/David) - 2:46 20. Let Me Go to Him (Bacharach/David) - 3:25 Regarding "In Between The Heartaches": In Between the Heartaches Composed By Bacharach/David Performed By Warwick, Dionne Length 2:52 Appears On Look of Love: The Burt Bacharach Collection [1998] From the Vaults [1995] Here I Am/Here Where There is Love [1996] Here I Am [1965] AMG REVIEW: Another example of the Bacharach/ David songwriting team attempting to outdo themselves in terms of pop experimentation, this song is another underappreciated classic. Once again, Bacharach walks the musical high wire between dissonance and resolution with the chord and key changes, with what can only be described as perfect results. Hal David's pragmatic lyrics weave in and out of the melody with the usual impressive ease, making the dark content easy to swallow. One of Dionne Warwick's personal favorites, she took it into the Top 40 in late 1965. — Matthew Greenwald

| Yeah, marky, I got the CD from the David Nathan site. (Good ole Keefe reminded me :D .) He was taking pre-orders before the release date. Since it's an import (for us  ) I guess the internet is your best bet. My Dionne collection (vinyl) is still holding up well and I know I have a reel-to-reel somewhere with nothing but her on it. I recorded it when I was overseas in Okinawa. Used it to keep me mellow. Two of my favorite songs by Bacharach/David/Warwick are "In Between The Heartaches" and "Here I Am". That piano intro on "Here I Am" is so simple yet so beautiful, a Burt Bacharach trademark. |

| Mark, David Nathan's site had the best price. I also saw it on Amazon.com. My cousin looked at a few stores in SF and couldn't find the disc, although I would suspect Jeff's favorite SF record store, Medium Rare, would carry it. Surely some store in LA has this gem! |

| Its a shame that a jazz scat track she did on Norman Connors "Starship" LP wasn't included.. think it was called "Just Imagine"... had the great Onaje Allan Gumbs on kys too.. I really love that 70s mix of flute, vox scat, Arp Solina, rhodes over latin beats.. I'd love to find more stuff like that... |

| Funny you should mention this... I recently met the guy who compiled this release. He's quite proud that it's getting better reviews than anything BMG has put out :) |

| Graham, the guy has every right to be proud. The liner notes describes all the work they put into looking for and restoring the unreleased tracks. Quite a wonderful collection! |

| I was lucky enough to see Phyllis Hyman perform live at The Hammersmith Odeon in England during 1991. Her voice was so powerful and evocative, I thought that I was at home listening to my albums. It was truly shocking to hear over the radio in '96 that she committed suicide. Like so many Divas of the past, Billie Holliday etc, she had many an inner demon to contend with. People like Kylie Minogue, do not deserve to even write the word diva. |

February 22nd, 2008 Hello Everyone! I'm Michael aka "FamousMikeyG" in the music business. I Produced Phyllis Hyman's IN BETWEEN THE HEARTACHES - THE SOUL OF A DIVA "Compact Disc and Double Vinyl LP Edition", released on Expansion Records (of England). I just happen to stumble across this site and thought that I'd like to join in on some of the discussions the members were having regarding Phyllis Hyman and some of the other artists, seeing as I know many of them personally and can shed some light on areas that might not normally get covered. I used to DJ when I was younger, but have since gone on to work in other facets of music. Mostly Road Management, Producing and Soul Music Archiving. I've been collecting records since I was a kid! I just wanted everyone to know that I appreciate all the support and kind words regarding my project. Any questions I can answer regarding it, please just ask. I've worked with many of the Divas over the years - particularly Phyllis Hyman, Jean Carn(e), Angela Bofill, Miki Howard and Viola Wills. David Nathan is also a friend of mine and some of you have commented on your having purchased the Phyllis CD at his online music shop. I know that he really appreciates the support as well - so a big THANK-YOU on his behalf (from me to you). Putting HEARTACHES together was a labour of love for me (as well as labour intensive), as it took just over a year to Produce. I really had to pick my own brain when it came to recalling some of Phyllis' comments on her own material, etc. The project really was a tribute to my longtime friend Miss Phyllis Hyman whom I was on the road with for approx. 13 years (sporadically). I wanted to share some of the rare musical gems she had left behind, as I was privy to them. While others clamoured for her clothes and material belongings after her death, it was only I that wanted all of her music (regardless of the format it was left in), while going through her memorabilia and belongings... and THANK GOD FOR THAT - that's why a good chunk of her music is in my hands (to this very day). I hope to release something new on her in the coming year, all things going well. By the way, for those who may not know - this Phyllis Hyman project was "in consideration" for two Grammy Nominations for the year 2004 (as I completed it late November of 2003). The Catagories that submissions were made for (by two of the contributing song-writers, who's song that I chose to utilize in the compilation) were: BEST HISTORICAL ALBUM FOR 2004 and BEST LINER NOTES FOR 2004. While we never received the Official Nominations, it was sure sweet knowing that the the Academy and the Buying Public regarding the set as being THAT highly prized. I was floored, needless to say. And if Phyllis were still here - she wouldn't have believed it herself, as she once claimed "I should have won many of those suckers long ago!" Graham, the more I look at your photo, the more you look familiar, but I still can't seem to place you even though we've met. Cheers and hope to hear from you all. FamousMikeyG |

| Dayna....this is an old thread from 2003....I did find the cd at Amoeba Records some time after I posted. At that time, I didn't know how to do the Amazon thing, but I have subsequently learned. I now go there first. Thanks for the tip, however. And I just pulled the cd to give it another listen...it's been too long since I've heard Phyllis in all her splendor....and to the guy, MikeyG [Michael Grimaldi] who compiled it... Thanks for you superb effort and please post more...we love Phyllis around here.
