Default Herbie Mann is Gone

Don't know if you've heard but Herbie Mann passed away Tuesday at the age of 73. He'd been battling prostrate cancer since 1997. Herbie had left his native New York and was living in California since the early '80's. He'll be missed by many I'm sure.

I remember the first time I purchased one of his albums. It was 1975 and it was titled "Discoteque". It had the hit "Hijack Your Love". This song got a lot of play on WDAS-FM in Philly back then. Since that time I have listened to his earlier jazz records. Recently, I found "Discoteque" and the 1973 release "Turtle Bay" on CD.

He will be missed indeed! 8)

WELCOME, Keith. Always good to have a new member jump right into the discussions. Glad you're here. I also found this cd, just a little over a month ago. Bought it so I'd have "Hi Jack" on CD but everything is nice. Yes, Herbie will be missed.

Philly is rich with music history, it is really cool to hear from other folks from all over the world on this site. 8)
