K.G.B. it was, on Saturday nights 12.00 - 09.00 (sometimes would go straight over to Cleethorpes on the Sunday for the All Dayers, where did we get the energy!)

There are still a few clubs/venues in London and around the U.K. that still spin jazz, also Japan has an underground jazz-dance scene as well. You can listen to some of this style of music on a web radio show called 'Happy Jazz' on the following links: www.danceandsoul.com, www.ipodyourmondo.com

This is a very interesting read for me. I am 25 years old. I live in the California.. and I have been turned on to alot of these artists.. most of which I categorize under UK funk.. the difference between Northern and Southern?? I have no clue.. I really love both sides I guess.. and it is very hard to follow since alot of these scenes were around before I was born. But definately form a listeners POV as well as a djs.. Jazz Funk is a favorite.. are bands like Blue Feather and Cool Notes considered jazz funk in your opinions? personally I would classify them as so because of the instrumentals they have in mid song. as far as Fusion goes.. i have no clue what that term means.. I have many songs listed in MP3 format.. almost no 12 inch..well.. except for Tom Tom Club _ Close to the Bone.. but I enjoy reading first hand experience of what this music meant to some of you when it was new or fairly new.. alot newer than today.. but even today I rally appreciate these gems.. not so much the disco/pure disco side.. but the funky jazzy side.. as a student of the funk i am humbled by all of your knowledge and appreciate this thread as well as this forum for true funk lovers.

Hi there,
The 'scene' was very exciting and creative on both sides of the pond. Blue Feather were a group from Holland much like Mezzoforté, who did a funk LP or two. The Cool Notes aren't really considered as jazz funk artists...They were making what was called soul and dance music back in the early '80s. Now it would be called R&B, but years ago only old people made R&B: BB King etc. Hope that helps ya.

Would 'Space Dust/Sherlock' by Deodato & 'Do You Have Any' by Le Pamplemousse been played in UK jazz-funk clubs in '79?

Very nice thread. I heard Deodato - Super Strut for the first time this week and glad there is a whole connected sub-genre for Jazz/Disco/Latin/Funk fusion. I've got my work cut out for me but I'll start my quest!
