to DVD? I didn't read any additional information, whether it will be a single DVD or the entire series, but I suspect it was prompted by all the Michael Jackson madness.

Will it be distributed through retailers or sold exclusively by Don Campbell, like the Midnight Special DVDs?

I've downloaded a ton of those performances from Soul Train. Most are lip synched, but some are live. The James Brown ones are definitely live. I hope those make it on the DVD set.

the information I read online was very vague... Hopefully there's more info available soon. At the same time I read about a new release of remixes of Michael Jackson's old songs, which struck me as a bit opportunistic.

I imagine it'll be a release along the line of the MIDNIGHT SPECIAL DVD that came out recently.A "best of" type of thing.

I can only dream of a complete set !!!! I started watching it in the summer of 79 - when I was sick at home and couldn't go out for the whole summer.

Ugh, more remixes?! Haven't they already screwed up the old Motown songs with the various CD remix projects they keep putting out? Here's a clue - release the original albums on CD!

THANK YOU, I'd MUCH rather have the original albums on Cd, but since CDs are rapidly becoming obsolete, I doubt it'll ever happen. And since so many original Motown albums were so short, they could easily fit 2 on one CD. While Michael Jackson's passing has people currently interested in Motown again, it would be really smart to do it now. 7/11/09

I've always been VERY curious to know how many people buy the complete sets of those CDs I see on late night TV....some have as many as 10 CDs and cost well over a hundred bucks. And I was VERY surprised when I saw the offer to "try them out" for a week for $9.95.....what do you suppose people are doing with those CDs while they try them out for a week? I haven't seen one of those sets that interested me that much to even want to try them out.

Me neither...I've never been driven to buy those sets advertised on TV. But I was very interested by one collection from Time Life (I believe it was - but then again who knows for sure...). Anyway - it was the collection that focused on every year of the 70's decade. I was mostly attracted by the liner notes (of course !! ) since I already had most of the songs featured.

As far as music is concerned - I know what I want and I can't believe anyone would go through the trouble of ordering the set,pay for the shipping then receive them, look at the tracklist, listen to them in passing - then decide they want their money back...

My impression of those CD compilations like the Time Life ones were that they were just for casual listeners only. Not for the die hard, serious collector. If you'll notice, though, none of them ever have Beatles or Rolling Stones tunes (I'm referring to the 60s ones as an example). Those guys know that they can make more money if you have to buy their own albums. I think for 70s dance compilations, the Bee Gees stuff is usually missing.

Sometimes you'll be lucky to find Motown stuff on CD. For example, there were a number of 2 on 1 CDs of the Jackson LPs, and other artists on Motown like Edwin Starr. But there are so many great artists and LPs during the 70s that have never reached CD, and may never. I'm surprised, for example, that only one Undisputed Truth CD was released. They had quite a number of great LPs on Motown. None of the Dynamic Superiors records were released on CD, neither were the Jerry Butler Motown albums. I could go on and on. I am trying to avoid buying the tunes off of iTunes if they become available there because I want these companies to think that putting out CDs is better than some ho hum mp3.
