We gave the limmo a miss & actually walked ourselves DD! (its only 20 mins walk from my house). Well, did u enjoy the show? We definitely did & was interested to see Don Ray & Eddie Holman mentioned as they went on to big 70's disco careers. I know one of the leading actors as he's worked for Brian's touring acting company & I know he's really into Northern Soul (his back-flips were amazing eh?!). Did it bribg back memories? (I was filling up at the end when the place was closing down!)

yes STEELY i really loved this a real treat. when i arrived and bought the programme and realised there was a cast of just 4 i thought id wasted a plane ticket, but what those 4 actors acomplished in a couple of hours was incredible from eugenes first shouted words "wigan casinowh 1973-1981 did it really appen? i got goosebumps.you never actually had to have been at the casino to enjoy this or not to be from the north of england in two hours they showed you what it was like over an eight year period to have been there in words music and jokes explained the boredom drabness, hoplessness of what most people faced in a [then]northern town, leaving school ending up in a dead end job with not too much prospects for most people and how northern soul grew out of that. they showed us how people walked talked, smoked and danced.the use of old granada t.v footage of the casino made it all come alive as they danced in front of the dancers on the film the editing was superb as all the out-takes that were never originally used in the film were edited in,the dancing was great with the cast even cheekily displaying the casinos rival club the meccas dance steps as they cut in the fast and funky and shit rare "ton of dynamite" by frankie[love man]crocker an early turbo release.the jokes were great when eugene and danny were discussing eddie holman records and eugene was playing with himself and trying to hide his erection
how many northern soulies does it take to change a lightbulb...43..1 to change it and 42 to discuss weather the original was better or not! and the toilet scene where eugene was trying to find his manhood after hed dropped his first speed  ..............................

.............also steely a great point you picked up on about don ray and eddie holman theres a big connection between northern soul and disco namely loads of artists, producers writers and players wernt new at all and had been around a lot longer than people think and had a big hand in creating disco[check out the credits on the back of disco albums youll be amazed] i could write a book about this but ill spare you that and just give a few examples right off the top of my head groups/artists that had been around for years cutting sixties sides intruders,3 degrees, ohio players, patti austin, van mccoy owned labeles wrote and produced everywhere.the parliments[revilot/golden world] became parliment, ebony ivory and jade came out of the jive five, the ritchie family came out of honey and the bees, moses dillard was behind the saturday night band, the fatback band were gerry and paul and the trammps were the volcanos! who cut great sides for artic records in philly where hall and oats hung out as kids, the list is endless some people think de-lite was a new label that goes back to the sixties and all platinum goes back further than people think.garnett mimms, ronnie walker o.k ill stop [sorry i had to do this in 3 parts]

This sounds like a great night out. Please let me know who the organisers are or if they're going to put it on in London. I think it would work down here so well.

hi PHYLLISHYMAN the play is now running in leeds ending next saturday and thats it  im sure theyre all astounded at the response to this [im sure leeds will be as sold out as manchester was] so if the actors arnt too committed with other things theyll consider doing more as ive seen in many music mags that people in the south are pretty dissapointed, however theres talk of another big west end production now :P
theres lots of things getting planned now for this year as its wigans big anniversary year including t.v documentries etc with one due soon i believe with a possible title of "its gettin' mighty crowded"

hi STEELYDAN yes the burger king[or isnt it kentucky fried chicken?]theres been loads of adverts using northern soul records but these are the BEST!!there must be a whole series of them the ones ive seen are the one where theyre in a soul collectors shop and theyve closed it"due to alterations" and the staff eat their chicken and then start dancing to "i cant get away"-bobby garrett and theres a poor vinyl junkie staring through the window desperate to get in! and the other and ive only seen it once seemed to be set in a club and used that 15,000 pound motown rarity "do i love you"-frank wilson,i love these ads theyre really cool i want to see more, are you seeing more round your way? who would have ever thought this! i wonder if they show these in america??

I heard Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) on Jazz FM on the PY (Peter Young) show yesterday. It's been going through my head ever since... Don't suppose it was one of the 2 originals, though!!

What I would give to find a 3rd copy ......
