| Wow: Wow!! Are these and the other tracks big on the rare groove scene or have you posted merely for their rarity? How big is the '80s rare groove scene? Just asking, honest answers appreciated. |

Some of them can be heard any now and then @ online-streams , podcasts or other media online. Also , the album on which Mystic Merlin's "Mr. Magician" appears , has been officially re-issued on cd by Capitol and can easily be found/purchased online. I couldn't exactly tell for how much those posted tracks go for on places like eBay. What i sometimes do is check the "completed auctions" on eBay , and after having done that a few times you sorta get an impression which tracks sell for much. popsike.com - rare vinyl records auction results / price guide - record collector is another reference-source for what's popular in the collectors scene. Quote:
I've seen some online sites where many collectors share their purchases , from which some tracks i've never heard of. A UK-seller told me once that at one point , French collectors mainly would buy albums and maxi-singles. But slowly they started to discover that a lot of rare 80's was exclusively released on 45-singles , so that's another format which has become popular. The UK-scene was always a great reference for me , because i purchased many issues of the magazine Blues & Soul during the 80's. I don't know how big the scene over there is today though. Japan also has an intersting scene. I sometimes purchased a few ultra-rare releases from Japanese sellers. Some of those releases i had never seen before , until i started to explore on eBay and such. There have been reissued a good list of collectors-items , through quality remasters by the official Japanese-departments of major companies or sometimes by authentic Japanese labels like P-Vine. I believe that P-Vine initially started to release rare P-Funk albums , but eventually broadened their catalogue. The re-issue market of 80's boogie has grown and besides Japan , who were about one of the first starting this during the early 90's , now there are some solid companies in the UK , France , Germany and the Netherlands as well releasing the rare stuff. In this digital-age it's sometimes hard to tell how big the total 80's scene exactly is , because people from all over the world are suscribed to specialised sites , blogs , MySpace and Facebook-pages , podcasts , forums ( like this one from discomusic ) , etc... I'm regulary browsing in order to find new interesting communities who listen to or collect from this particular era. Found some great 80's-forums located in Germany last year , so the scene lives there as well. |
