In the U.K. dear old Auntie BBC has taken over the mantle of spreading the digital TV and Radio word. From the end of this month we'll have something like 20 new TV and radio channels accessed by a set top digibox. I've been like a kid in a sweetshop flicking through what's coming onstream. Yesterday, BBC Radio 6 became active and tonight by accident I came across the Craig Charles Funk show. Craig Charles is much better known as a comic actor in the spoof sci fi show RED DWARF and lately as the presenter of ROBOT WARS. Anyway, the show is quite good. He's quite a natural broadcaster and his humour comes across in his tongue in cheek delivery. The music is less focused than say the Norman Jay Funk Factory show on Radio 2, but is a good cross section of Funk with the odd Blues track. The show can be replayed via the Radio 6 website. Here's a list from a few shows back. Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music Sly & The Family Stone - Thank You Fallentime Be Myself Ms Dynamite - Dy-na-mite Prince - Kiss Eminem - My Name Is Labi Siffre - I Got The Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy Kool & The Gang - Too Hot ESG - Step Off Stereo MC's - Creation Jamiroquai - Supersonic Ernie & The Top Notes - Dap Walk Chic - Good Times Eryka Badu - On & On The Meters - Jambalaya Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Elses's Guy Maceo & The Macs - Soul Power Jacky Beavers - Mr Bumpman Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way Bobby Byrd - Hot Pants Carleen Anderson - Apparently Nothin' Tony Allen - Every Season The Bees - Angry Man Grandmaster Flash - The Groove The Rimshots - Who's Got The Monster Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground Trouble Funk - Drop The Bomb The Bays - Hip Hop Princess Superstar - Keith'n'Me Carleen & The Groovers - Can We Rap Parliament - Up For The Down Stroke Barry Adamson - Black Amour Not a bad playlist. This weeks show is just as good with faves such as E W & F, Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Rick James, Pigbag, Reece, Mr. Scruff, Rosco Gordon, Billy Preston. Give it a listen.

Quinny, Seriously now, I loved the list. Despite Eminem (who I hate), I can see a very ecletic selection!! BBC rules!!! I was always a fan of their programms. Lately, I'm loving them for their radio stations too!! Peace _________________ SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL [ This Message was edited by: Blaxman on 2002-10-19 09:52 ]

Blax: Who'd have thought the BBC would become such a hip dude? BBC 1Xtra the new black music station, is worth checking out too; although they tend to have a staple diet of pretty mindless up to date stuff, there are quite a few gems to be heard.
