hello this is soulsta. I am truly a big fan of funk and as many lp's as Ihave I never hear of a lot of the groups on these lists. wow it would be nice to hear clips. I mean everyone knows the barkays, gap band, etc. but what other styles of funk I would like to know.

I see that not many heads are familiar with "The Midnight Movers Unltd". "Follow The Wind" was the Mover's most popular single back in the day. I remember my dad, uncles and a few of their partners sitting around with a 1/2 gallon of shine smoking weed and listening to this stuff. This was around the mid-70's when I lived in Philly. Two more good ones were the tracks "Put Your Mind In Your Pocket" & "Funk Don't Mean A Scent".
The vocalist reminds me a lot of Johnnie Taylor. After doing some research and years of remembering the tracks, I finally tracked down the Funky Delicacies re-issue on cd back in 2004. It may still be available out there.

Hi mix machine. I am familiar with midnight movers also. I have the lp with guys posing in your first pic. they were funky with the flute. I like feeling strong. sorry I didn't know how to post your comment as a quote.

I just found and listen to some clips off this CD, it looks like the tittle track "Truckin'" will be more down my alley, I won't know until I listen to the complete Lp though, I'm going to pick it up anyways just for "Follow the wind" is a lot easier than de-noising my original 45 RPM

to insert quotes now with new software hit the 4th icon from the right and " quote" brackets appear on the text section, then place your cursor between the brackets and Paste your Copied text, don't know if the old fashion way of adding your own brackets still works...I'm still working on it..

remicks: On that we disagree ..... I'll say that funk is at best a distant second cousin of disco .....
Disco originated in Europe. Funk is an offspring of soul. Some funksters successfully incorporated disco elements into their sound to become a niche within disco ... Kool & The Gang , Crown Heights Affair, Brass Construction etc.

Then who's the daddy?
We'll probably never know. Some say there is no daddy ...disco was sort of an immaculate conception . I say it was appropriately conceived during one wild orgy ..... an exhausting all-nighter. In attendence was soul, jazz. classical , big band , funk, latin, movie scores, african , and rock . There were others that couldn't be identified but they seemed to provide the endless thump thump thump thruout that salacious night ......8)8)

LOL! That sure sounds like it to me. They probably had some Barry White spinning just to set the mood.
