What's even worse is when one comical song overshadows your entire career. When somebody mentions Clarence Carter, all I think about is his 80's hit "Strokin'".

I know this is pre-funk era, but I'd have to say 'If You Wanna Be Happy' by Jimmy Soul is the quintessential humourous soul song. "...never make a pretty woman your wife, so from my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you..."

I've always thought the banter between JB and the band in 'Get Up Offa That Thing' was pretty funny.

'Why Can't We Be Friends' by War is another song done with a sense of humor.

Unintentionally funny is probably that dance song 'Speak Well' by Philly USA, where the lead singer cuts up a guy saying something about it not being the size of one's 'pencil' but how well you write with it, and that the guy is writing "without any lead at all".

I don't know what label it was on, but it certainly was a huge hit in the USA. I think it hit number one (if not the top 5) on the billboard charts back in '62 or '63.

I just remembered another comical R&B/Soul/Dance record: The Original Disco Duck album by Rick Dees. When I first listened to the album, I thought it was pure cheese. But on repeated listening, I began to appreciate the funk and soul value of at least the backing tracks, if not the lyrics. The guys who played on that album were the same guys who played on the Stax records of the early 70s, like Willie Hall on drums.

Jimmy Castor was a jokester  His "Trogolodite (Cave man)" was a riot, I don't think this song could ever be played on the radio today as it was back in the day.

"What we gonna do here is go back, back into time, when the only people that existed were Trogolodite, Cave man, cave women, Neandothrol (sp), Trogolodites....

Let's take the average cave man, at home, listening to his stereo, sometime he'd get up , trying to do his thing, he'd begin to move, something like this, DAAANCE, DAAAANCE, when he got tired of dancing alone, He Looked in the mirror and said "GOTTA FIND A WOMAN, GOTTA FIND A WOMAN, he'd go down by the lake where all the girl be swimming or washing clothes or something, he looked around reached in and grabbed one, "COME'ER.COME'ER, he'd grab her by the hair, you can't do that today fellows, cause it might come off  and you'll have a piece of hair in your hand and she'd be swimming away from you , this one women just laid there, wet, and frightened, he said, MOVE, MOVE, she got up , she was a big woman! , bigggg woman! , her name was Bertha , Bertha Butt, one of the Butt sisters, He didn't care , He look up and said, SUCK IT TO ME,SUCK IT TO ME, SUCK IT TO ME, SUCK IT TO ME, she looked down on him, she was ready to crush him, but she began to like it, she said, I'll suck it to you Daddy, he said, WHOT????, She said, I'll suck it to you Daddy….you know what he said? he start it all way back then, I ain't going to lie to you, when she said, I'll suck it to you Daddy, he said , RIGHT ON, RIGHT ON, HOT PANTS, HOT PANTS, YEAH,YEAH ",...:lol:

Check out his others like "Bertha Butt Boggie", also Joe Tex’ I aint gonna bump with a big fat woman” I can’t stop laughing every time I hear this one, “She done broke my hip”
