Ok folks, I need your help in making this cd the funkiest ever.
I want people to say Oh! "I forgot about that Jam" now thats funky!

I got a best of P-Funk mix---I need funky but forgotten.

Please give me some ideas that will fill a 60 minute set.

thanx

Eldorados - Loose Booty (think JBs Hot Pants Road type of groove, add dirty acid guitar licks and growling gruff chants 'n' vocals and you have this corker!!). Used to play the hell outta it back in '72.
I'd completely forgotten about this absolute cracker until I heard it again on an ancient radio demo tape of mine, just the other day.

Donald Austin - Crazy Legs (a fun piece of funk that bouces along admirably; has a great conga driven percussion break and rthythm track).

Midnite Movers Unlimited - Follow The Wind (never gets mentioned anywhere and hasn't been on a compilation yet, so far as I know; this was THE BUSINESS back in '72/'73).

O'Jays - Give The People What They Want How many people remember this really solid, funky gem?

If you've never heard Banbarra - Shack Up then it would be an absolute must.

Must be hundreds of others, depending on what sorta vibe you're trying to put together.

SuperD:

Here's another one to try:

Gene Dozier & The United Front - Give The Women What They Want....a heavy, slowish funk chugger that was massive with me (my 7" copy is completely knackered). Certainly not remembered by many, but deserves to be IMO.

or,

(said in mischief)
Rhythm Makers - Zone.....anything to get more people into Q's numero uno. THE funkiest bass ever?????

Default Forgotten funk?

Kinda hard to think about when I'm in such a disco mood, but here goes: "Cutie Pie" and "Pull, Fancy Dancer, Pull" by One Way are 2 of the stankiest pieces of sythesized funk ever. "Keep it Hot" by Cameo. "Water" and "The Jam" by Graham Central Station. "Chase Me", "So Easy" and "Shake and Dance With Me" from ConFunkShun. "I Heard THAT!" by Quincy Jones. "Reach For It" and "Dukey Stick" by George Duke. "Hot Nights" and "Touch" by A Certain Ratio. "Move Your Boogie Body" and "Too Hot to Stop" from the Bar Kays.

Look for any CD with the word 'Breaks' in the title, like the Super Breaks series on BGP/Ace, Block Party Breaks by DJ Pogo, The Breaks from Strut featuring various DJ's old school funk selections. Also the Pulp Fusion series contains a good selection of funk and jazz funk. And Kurtis Blow's History of Rap Vol.1 has some great old school funk and samples. Then of course there are the CDs by James Brown and Kool & The Gang: you can't go wrong there.

Hi SUPER D,

One of my favourite funk songs is "God made me funky" by "Headhunters" a killer jazzfunk song(full length album version)Also try for "listen to me" by "Baby Huey Story" from the "living legend" lp on Curtom (1971).The "Mandrilland" lp by Mandrill is full of funky songs.

My favorite Mandrill track is 'Fat City Strut' (it's not on that LP you mention). Wickedest wah'd calvinette and electric piano.

'grooover', You have GREAT taste in funk...I found all of your choices in one form of media or another... and your selection is ON point.

I especially like the Gino Soccio track, 'try it out'__ I was riding around in my jeep today bumping it as loud as I could stand it all day today!

let me know about some of your other choices in funk.

thanks everyone for the feedback.
