The X Factor - UK

WHose watching the X Factor? For anyone not familair it is Simon Cowell's (everyone's heard of him!) equivalent of American Idol except there are three categories, boys, girls, bands & over 25's. There are 4 judges & after wittling the auditionies down from 200,000, each judge is left with 3 acts to take to the live shows on Saturdays. The public then votes for the favourite act and the 2 act with the least votes go for a 'sing-off' and the judges choose who to save. *ANYWAY.....
*
This year there is one act that is causing particular controversy, 2 Irish boys called John & Edward who can't sing and dance but put through as the judge in their category is also Irish but a very shrewd person (he found Boyzone who were originally rubbish) - the point of this post is to say I have decided to vote for 'Jedward' as they are known, as if they win, beating some amazing acts along the way it will be the end of the show, and ruin Simon Cowell's credibility as a serious pop impressario.

Why didn't anybody tell me that this sport exists and that it is one of the fastest growing competitions in the US. Today I read an interview with a Belgian girl that plays in the US league.

As you already know: I hate soccer but I'm a true American Football fanatic. I always try to catch the games on ESPN and I will definitely try to find the LFL now!

A few weeks back in San Francisco I tried to go and see a film called "Paranormal Activity" in vain a few times, every performance was always sold out. The word of mouth had it it's about the most frightening thing since The Exorcist. Steven Spielberg was quioted of saying he could not sit thru it, too shocking. The "Adviosry for parents" section st IMDB warned that patrons are likely to feel extreme discomfort and nausea wall thru it. I was feeling very anxious: need to see this frightfest as soon as possible!

Well, the 1st local screening was yesterday night, following big promo hype: the number one film in the USA, one of the most intense films ever made! Having just sat thru the genuinely scary "Descent Part 2" I had my hopes high, despite the fact that the film had been given a suspiciously low age limit by our board of film classification. What flickered across the screen must be one of the absolute lamest things masquerading as a horror film in history. The only reaction from the packed house was after the final not-so-horrifying sequence when the lights came up: was THAT the end, was that all there was? People left pissed off having been conned to pay 11 euros to see a halloween treat that would not scare a 5 year old. I was certain somehow they had done the reverse and edited the film for the European markets, recutting it for something suitable for the whole family. But no, what we saw was the original cut. AVOID!

There seems to be little or no Halloween spirit in my neighborhood....my downstairs neighbor pins a mean "no candy so do not knock" sign on her door. I ride my bike downtown to look at the costumes and see very few that show any imagination, so quite naturally my mind drifts to the electric Halloween parties me and my friends Cha Cha, Queen Mother, the "girl", Miss Thang and others used to attend in the 80s. Next, I put on one of my disco DVDs (A & E's "The Story of Disco") and my spirit immediately rises and one of my rare disco dreams appears in my head. This one involves many of us fans of discomusic.com having a 3 or 4 day "disco conference", maybe in Las Vegas Nevada. A major goal would be to show our appreciation to Bernie for all the hard work he does to maintain the site. We'd rent out Studio 54 for a couple nights to indulge ourselves. We'd choose a cheap hotel, maybe the Stratosphere, and host conferences where we'd share our disco memories, show off rare records and memorabilia, etc. We'd invite a few singers, producers, remixers and others to talk and share their memories and experiences. And best of all, those of us who are just names would actually meet each other face to face. Impractical in a recession? Probably. Financially prohibitive...again, probably...but a nice Saturday night dream. And trust me, other groups with very specific interests have made it happen.

Maybe it was the final season on TV but now they actually are shooting the 2010 Movie version which promises to be very good!

*Liam Neeson* is in the role of Hannibal Smith that was played by the late George Peppard. *Bradley Cooper* takes over the role of Templeton "Faceman" Peck that was played by Dirk Benedict of classic Battlestar Galactica fame. Recently retired UFC star *Quinton "Rampage" Jackson* now assumes the role of B.A. Baracus made famous by Mr. T and *Sharlto Copley* in the role of crazed ace pilot "Howling Mad" Murdock, played to the hilt by Dwight Schultz.

I'll post the trailer as soon as possible (available).
