Yes , we discussed it at length a few weeks ago. It's a great record, I used to have a "special dance" I used to do when it was played.

The "dance" was especially manly and straight acting. If it was late in the evening I would often remove my shirt in front of the adoring onlookers.

Kev Roberts at the controls and once again plundering the Northern Soul vaults!!!!

(Still bought it though) :)

The majority of the releases on Electricity were covers, if my memory serves me right.

The Next In Line
In Orbit
Didn't Say A Word
You Turned My Bitter Into Sweet
Nothing's Worse Than Being Alone
Gotta Have Your Love

were ALL Northern Soul classics. (Any I've missed?)

Plus two "pop" standards covered by Simone. Him & It's Too Late.

*racking brain* for more Electricity 12"s.

The plundering of the northern Soul vaults was also done by Simon Soussan with Love abd desire by Arpeggio and Queen of fools by Jessica Williams, Ian Levine also chipped in with Skiing in thye snow by laura Pallas. I even remember a "gay" Northern Soul night at Heaven in about 1983.

I remember reading years ago that Simon Soussan has some connection with Northern Soul but I was never able to find out what. Is that true? Do any of you guys know? I first came across him with Pattie Brooks then discovered the Shalamar medley. He improved greatly with Arpeggio and Jessica Williams. I didn't know that Love adn Desire was a Northern Sould tune.

By all accounts Simon Soussan was a fairly big time bootlegger on the Northern Soul scene. I was always surprised that he got away with it and actually gained a quick respectability when releasing his own productions. Surprised he wasn't ostrecised by the record business.

The Jessica Williams track wasn't actually a cover version, although it does share its name with a Northern Soul tune, recorded by Barbara Mills.

I have The Invitations original of Skiing In The Snow somewhere! :)

Didn't Simone also cover Billy Ocean's Red Ligh Spells Danger on Electricity?

Yes you are right Queen of fools was not a cover version, although inspired by the barbara Mills tune, Love and desire was "inspired" by "Stronger than her love" but I can't for the life of me remember who did that.

There's an interesting interview with Ian Levine where he talks about Simon Soussan's role in the Northern Soul scene on the DJ History site, here's a link to the page with it for anyone interested:

http://www.djhistory.com/djhistory/a...nterview_id=19

The info on Soussan is about halfway down the page.
