I just picked up the 12" of Eartha Kitt's "I LOVE MEN " b/w "WHERE IS MY MAN " ( for one buck !! :D ).

To start with those cheesy cat sounds and growls .... guess that's the "cat " in Kitt :P
Then of course the cheesy Jacque Morali lyrics ..... and finally the voice ... definitely someone who's table smokes up the place!! She sounds like someone who's spent years in those dingy smokey bars needing her men !!

Wouldn't a duet between her and Amanda Lear have been a hoot !!

remicks, I can really recommend Eartha Kitt's autobiography to you. That lady has LIVED & she's still going strong. Despite her raunchy image she still has class & style, something some of today's 'stars' could well do with!

Puts me to mind of the gang thug that's about to be put to death here in Calif. and all these sobbers that are saying sure maybe he did head a gang for years and killed three people .... but now he's writing children's books and is really a nice guy !!! :P :P ( can we get a emoticon of someone barfing , Bernie? )

Seriously though Dee ...I'm big on autobiographies...biographies ...reading Tony Bennett's right now .... so I will be on the look out for it. When was it published???

Oh, it was about the early 90s I think; I haven't got the book now as i passed it on & didn't get it back. You must get it but i must warn you that she doesn't always 'kiss & tell' on other famous people she's dallied with. Remember those days when people had integrity? Admirable if a little boring n'est pas? :-? That must be why it went out of fashion.

Eartha had a horrific early life as I recall her telling on TV interview shows--just a nightmare!!!!!!!--before she became an entertainer.

Oh that's right Marky. She was effectively abandoned by her parents & the family who were supposed to look after her treated her like an animal & she had to live under the house (it was one of those on stilts) & they'd throw her scraps of food when she seemed to be at death's door. Also, she wasn't accepted by either the black community or the white one as she was mixed race so she never fitted in anywhere, even in New York where she eventually ran away to.

Eartha Kitt was on Larry King and looked very good and seemed very sharp . They were doing a program on James Dean being killed 50 years ago ( just up the road from where I am ) .
She said she road with Dean in that car in Vegas ...didn't like it ..and told Dean to get rid of it or it'd kill him .....

Guessing all that is in the autobigraphy .....

Yes, Eartha & James Dean were very good friends but unfortunately she doesn't give away many details about Dean's love life, life style etc. She just says that they used to spend hours talking & he would confide in her re his problems so deduce what you will. His enigmatic image remains intact. :(

I have Eartha`s autobiography. "Im Still here" - a fantastic read & it also has some wonderful photographs.

"I'm In The Mood For Dancing" by The Nolans
My wife, who is usually a even-tempered lass, would commit ritual murder if this was played in her presence. There aren't many tunes that would provoke this sort of response in her but this one is guaranteed to do it. She's a formidable lady too with a demon right hook so I wouldn't fancy the DJ's chances!

I can understand why O Superman would clear the place! Eight minutes of a minimal tape loop and Laurie Anderson's sometimes spoken vocals about an answerphone message. I was amazed then (1982?) how it came to be a hit. Some bloke reckoned it told him to kill all his family. Weird stuff, music...
