Mine was "Shattered Glass" by Ellie Warren, when I was 12! Good taste even then, lol! AND it was the 12"!

I s'pose the 1st record I bought that is widely acknowledged as 'hi-nrg' was Carol Jiani's 'Hit & Run Lover' in '81. I bought stuff like Lipps Inc & stuff from the late 70s by such as Donna Summer & Sylvester before that but they were more 'disco' before hi-nrg officially was named in the 80s.

Ya, really a tough one, but the first hi-NRG 12" that I purchased was "Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight" by Lime on Prism Records.

I also remember getting "Searchin'" by Hazell Dean and "So Many Men, So Little Time" by Miquel Brown (both on TSR) somewhat later.

Of course, I was only a teenager then, and I was using my allowance money!!!

:D

My first 12" (no pun intended) was " You think your a man" by the late, great Divine... I can still remember buying it from the local record Shop and getting "funny looks" when I went to the counter to pay for it LOL

The first Hi-NRG tracks I remember buying were (I bought them all the same day):

Sam Harris -- Hearts On Fire
Hot Gossip -- Don't Beat Around The Bush
Bronski Beat -- Why?

I remember playing Hearts On Fire over and over that day until my mother came into my room with an exasperated look on her face and said, "Didn't you buy more than one record? Please, please play something else!"

lol - that brings back memories for me... I remember buying the 12" single "Walk Like a man" by Divine - I could not stop playing it - My dad kept asking me to turn it off as he thought it was deadful !! -He asked me why I did not buy records by "proper" singers... :P

Hi matey!

"Savin Myself" is one of my faves too...has anyone spotted the similarity between that track and "Stealing My Time" by Kelly Marie? :D

Hi matey
STEALING MY TIME was a blatant attempt to copy the success of SAVIN MYSELF - I have both 12" singles in my collection and love both of em - Always been a big fan or "our Kelly"
