Default 5 Forgotten Classic Hi Nrg Tracks

1 I love Men- Cinema
2 I'm gonna Love you forever - Jimmy Ruffin & Jackson Moore
3 Alive with Love - Tina Fabrique
4 The Hills of Katmandu- Tantra
5 Reaching for the best - The New Exciters feat Brenda Reid.

All from the early mid 80's, when men were men, and the NRG was High.

I always preferred 'Non Stop' by Tina Fabrique. I like your 5 choices but personally I thought Tantra was too early for hi-nrg being 1980 but it got played for years afterwards didn't it?

Default Tantra

Hills of Katmandu was an Anthem at Heaven, the 16 minute version, drove the dancers wild. 1980 too early to be Hi NRG?? , technically you are probably right, but what about THE Break by Katmandu??, that was 79 and to my mind a massive Hi Nrg choon. Ian's film begins by stating, what in his opinion was the first Hi NRg record and you won't belive what it is, not in a million years

Let me see, I've got Ian on video saying that he considers the first hi-nrg record to be 'Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart' by The Supremes. That wasn't it was it? If it wasn't am I close?! :-?

Default I've heard him say that

Reference, "Love is like an itching in my heart", he said that as early as the interview with "The Face" magazine in 1984. However the film opens with Jigsaw " Sky High" from 1975?? , to be honest when I saw the unedited clips , I suggested to Levine that he was nuts, and that he should take it out but after watching the film half a dozen times prior to my writing the sleeve notes I figured that there is possibly something in the idea. The track does have the correct sound and structure.

I'll dig out Charley records address later and we can all send them an e mail.

That's interesting. I s'pose Jigsaw does have that quite poppy, uplifting style that hi-nrg often has.

Ian Anthony Stephens went on to produce records for KLONE records in the UK. I think he is still active at the moment...
Tracy Ackerman sang on mnay tracks (not always under her own name...She is a great singer and she also writes songs for other artists like Kylie...
Ian levine is one of my HINRG heroes.. His work during the RECORD SHACK years was superb and I still listen to them all today :-) - I have nearly all of his NIGHTMARE releases but some of them are definitely "below par" - My favourite artists are EVELYN THOMAS/MIQUEL BROWN/CAROL JIANI/EARLENE BENTLEY... True Divas 8) I also like tracks by Eastbound Expressway & Croisette..

Default Tracy Ackerman

Tracy Ackerman is a session vocalist, i first saw her name as a background singer for Shakatak and then she did Don't Want It don't need it a single on Boiling Point records which i think was through Skratch Studios also Passion records and then her name disapeared as she became Astaire and put out about 2 lps and about 8 or 9 singles. Then returning to Tracy Ackerman she out out singles on Debut and Passion as well as a remake of Get Here on Arista as Quartz featuring Tracy Ackerman and she also sang Everytime recorded by Lustral a wonderful record.Thats the last i heard of Tracey. Wish she had come to the US i would love to see her perform

Tracy has been recording either as a session singer or as an artist in her own right since the early 1980s. She is still very active today and does alot of session work for all the HINRG/Dance labels. Unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of seeing her perform live. You will find her name listed on many pop/dance albums as a featured backing singer or writer of songs. A very talented lady :D
