I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU! You said it all, man. That's exactly what I think about the whole EURODISCO thing. As I told you guys before, I even like SOME EURODISCO stuff - FROM HERE TO ETERNITY by GIORGIO and a couple of songs by VOYAGE, but that's it - oh, and AUTOMATIC LOVER & METEOR MAN by you know who (this one's for you, BLAX!, hehehe). BTW, "MAMA USED TO SAY" by JUNIOR rules! "Too late, too late baby bye, bye" zeca azevedo |

| Hey Zeca, The 8 min version of "Sledgehammer" is the original 12" mix which i have. It has on it: Sledgehammer (extended dance mix)..the one you mentioned Sledgehammer (extended version): this is not much different than the lp version except it has a minnute or so funky type intro then the rest is the same Don't Break This Rhythm: A gr8 track not on any LP I Have The Touch (85 remix edit): the full one on the b side of the "Walk Through The Fire" single is best As for his new work, i had no idea he had a new lp out. A movie soundtrack you said? I'll have to pick it up if its avalible over here in the USA. Also, someone told me of the remasters but i havent seen them in stores yet. Oh, also, have you ever heard the entire "Security" album in German? I have it on vinyl, its very very cool, plus some of the songs are longer, inluding "Shock The Monkey" or i should say "Shok Den Affen". He did the 1980 lp (nicknamed "Games Without Frontiers") in German as well which i am still trying to track down on either vinyl or cd, it dont matter, as long as i can own it. DJ Jimmy M

| Oh i forgot to ask Zeca, what is your favorite Gabriel LP? For me its a hard question to answer. The first 4 albums are so damn solid, don't think i could pick a fave out of those. Id probably say his weakest in my oppinion is the "Us" album. "Passion" i would say is not weak, just very different direction of music, alot didnt like it, but i did in an artistic way. There of corse are alot of rare b sides and stuff out there too which i have most of. Gabriel is one of my fave artists. In my non dance vinyl collection as you are going through it, u'd see a shitload of Gabriel records all together. DJ Jimmy M

| Hi Jimmy, well, finally I meet a GABRIELHEAD like me on the net, and on a DISCO MUSIC FORUM! Simply great! The soundtrack I'm talking about is from an Australian movie by PHILLIP NOYCE. The movie is called RABBIT PROOF FENCE and, as much as I know, it was released only in AUSTRALIA. I think they'll release the movie near the US summer. You can find some info about the movie and its music on the beautiful GABRIEL site, http://www.petergabriel.com. I agree with you, the 4 albums named PETER GABRIEL (SECURITY was baptized this way only in the U.S.) are fantastic records, lively aural experiences. I know GABRIEL's music for 20 years or more, and it's really hard to pick only one of his albums as his best. His work is marked by experimentation, but the man never forget to give to us, music lovers, great melodies and beautiful stories on his songs. I had the EP you mentioned in the 80's (the one with DON'T BREAK THIS RHYTHM), but it was lost in the shuffle, unfortunately. SLEDGEHAMMER is a classic dance track (our DISCO friends can say to us if they find SLEDGEHAMMER a dance classic or not). On this track GABRIEL shows his STAX influences, as much as he shows his MOTOWN influences on SHOCK THE MONKEY. My fav GABRIEL album, hmmm... I have a special relationship with his 4th album, the one with SHOCK THE MONKEY and SAN JACINTO and I HAVE THE TOUCH. I love this album and I think that the remastered version surely will do justice to the fantastic sound of the original vynil version. But for me, hisa best album is his 3rd, the one with BIKO. Simply impressive, powerful stuff, even after 22 years of its release. Not recommended for the faint of heart, the album shows GABRIEL at his peak as a composer and a musician. How one can argue with songs like INTRUDER, I DON'T REMEMBER and NOT ONE OF US, among other classics? Well, all GABRIEL albums are different from each other. US, in my opinion, is a great album, it grown with time. My favorite track on US is BLOOD OF EDEN, one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. One more word on GABRIEL: his 1986 album, SO, a classic album, had its track order changed for the remastered edition. Check out Gabriel's site to see the new track listing of SO and tell me what you think... You are great, mr. JIMMY. Peace to you. DON'T GIVE UP. zeca azevedo |

thanks for the kind words about my musical taste. Unfortunately I didn't visited PORTUGAL yet. On my little trip to EUROPE, that I did on 1997, I visited BARCELONA, PARIS, HEIDELBERG, VENICE, FIRENZE and ROME. Since then I'm wanting to go back to EUROPE, but you know, there's alway$$$ a problem or two (LOL). Anyway, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LINDA JONES! I didn't have the record you've mentioned, but I'm after her records since I 1st heard her strong, beautiful voice, 10 year ago or so. I fell in love with her soulful way of singing. ANY soul fan ought to know LINDA JONES's body of work. I have 2 CD compilations of her work, one of her TURBO records and one of her records on the LOMA label and NEPTUNE (yes, the GAMBLE & HUFF label that preceded PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL. Here's a little list (I don't want to bore our friends on the FORUM with another extensive list, you know) of my favorite LINDA JONES's heartmelting songs: HYPNOTIZED GIVE MY LOVE A TRY I CAN'T STAND IT FOR YOUR PRECIOUS LOVE STAY WITH ME FOREVER I LOVE YOU (I NEED YOU) I can say much more about the lady, but I think I'll stop before I get excited and write write write... One last word about Mrs. JONES: she is GLADYS KNIGHT's favorite singer! Enough said! Thanks again, DISCO, for your kind post. Let's keep in touch. Peace (paz) zeca azevedo |

| The Gabriel site is not working. Something is wrong with it. Anyway, the 3rd LP is a great one. Biko is a classic and a great way to end the LP. A fave of mine off that one is "Family Snapshot". Simply a very creative and deep track as its vocals are supposed to be sung by the one the song is talking about. Kinda like a mini musical. Also, "Sledgehammer" is a great club track regardlaess of what anyone says. That 12" and the "Big Time" 12" are in my disco/dance crates i use for mixing. Have you ever heard the Gabriel track "Out Out" released on the very obscure "Gremlins" soundtrack ep? This is a good dance track clocking in at a little over 7 min. and produced by Nile Rogers (of Chic fame). I remember buying this very strange soundtrack just for the Gabriel track back in the day. I'm glad i did cause not only do i have a very obscure track from P.G., but also a very obscure soundtrack with some silly ass music as well..lol. Anyway, ill check out the Gabriel site once its back up and running. DJ Jimmy M

| Hey Jimmy, I've listened to OUT OUT years ago and I don't remember the song quite well. All I can remember about the song is the fact that I found it a bit weird when I heard it for the 1st time. At the time I was somewhat disapointed with OUT OUT, since I was expecting that the partnership GABRIEL/RODGERS produce something magical just like LET'S DANCE or CHINA GIRL. Anyway, I'll look for OUT OUT and give another chance to the song. Peace, zeca azevedo |

| Well, it isnt the same as Bowie/Rogers thats for sure, but in my oppinion, i think its a good dance track. Gotta figure too, Bowie had more of a dance/disco type influence on alot of his music in the mid 70's right before the "drug" albums as i call them (low, heroes, lodger). Anyway, im a die hard Bowie fan as well and could talk just as well him as Gabriel. My music tastes are very wide..lol DJ Jimmy M

| Hey JIMMY, I'm a BOWIEHEAD too! In fact, I knew BOWIE's music waay before I knew GABRIEL's. I'm a BOWIE fan since my teens (in the mid 70's!) and I never forget the 1st time I see the video of LIFE ON MARS. It changed my life forever. Thru BOWIE's music I became aware of the work of other rock stars like BRYAN FERRY, LOU REED, GABRIEL, IGGY POP, BRIAN ENO, ROBERT FRIPP, ADRIAN BELEW and others. DAVID BOWIE was a charm and a musical school for me! He's my number ONE! Did you know that he's releasing a new album these days? It is called HEATHEN and it reunites DAVID with his best producer ever, TONY VISCONTI. It was a dream of mine to hear a new BOWIE album produced by TV. I'm expecting this album as a bride expects for her wedding day! LOL! Bowie is one of the most important influences in my life. He's an inspiration for me: he's over fifty years and still look beautiful! I'm a hardcore fan of his "drug" albums as you named them. I have tons of his albums here at home, and I never got tired of hearing them again and again, even I know some of them for more than 20 years! They always sound new and refreshing to me. BOWIE RULES! Peace for you, JIMMY ziggy azevedo |

| Does this mean that most of the generic sounding garbage that graces our top 40 radio is EuroDisco in effect? It's mostly made in Europe and it all has the same sound and rhythm patterns. Formulaic or WHAT!!! EuroDisco leaves me cold and always has. Jazz got it right. The club scene in the UK in the '70s and most of the '80s was based on BLACK music, be it soul or funk. That's why the classic Disco sound (very white sounding in many cases) was largely unimportant to us. Lots of it had little pure soul or pure funkiness and the galloping 130+ Disco music wasn't so big over here. Speed didn't mean excitement. We were less drugged and were happy dancing to slow grinders as well as much of the straight 4/4 stuff !! All generalisations I know, but for me largely true. |

| Quinny youre what I call a soul snob. I too love jazz & funk but I cant understand why so many UK people hate pure 'disco' or anything from mainland Europe. Its just a xenophobic attitude which pervades this silly little island that think its so cool & important in music.

| Steely: It's got NOTHING to do with snobbery. I ain't no great soul lover either in the purest sense of the phrase. Euro Disco and lots of pure Disco sounds just never pressed my buttons. They sounded sterile to my ears, thus leaving my butt less than jiggy. Is that a crime? |

When I think of true classic disco I think of "That's Where The Happy People Go" by The Trammps, "T.S.O.P" by MFSB, "Down To Love Town" Originals, etc. I don't think those songs are white sounding. |
