Default Newsflash: Amanda and Amii

Amii Stewart is starring as Billie Holliday in a heavily publicised musical LADY DAY, at the prestigious Teatro Ventaglio Nazionale of Milan. The reviews are glowing, "Excellent" says la Repubblica.

Amanda Lear got to number five on the "most airtime on television this week" chart in the Nov 19 issue of the Chi magazine, with the total of 8 mins 12 secs. She was described as being "volcanic".

I remember reading that Amanda Lear hosted a top-rated TV show in Italy. Does anyone know what this was like & did she perform her disco/dance material on it?

She has done several during the years, Ars Amanda among them. There's the occasional disco classic in her repertoire and she croons all sorts of chansons and stuff, always sparkling in sequined costumes and showing a lot of her famous legs.

Why are her legs famous Jussi? Are they especially long. I s'pose if she was once a man (as the popular urban myth goes) they would be long! :o

Now, let's get this straightened out once and for all shall we? Amanda Lear first got famous as Peeki D'Oslo in Barcelona after she joined Salvador dali's exotic entourage of art freaks so to speak. Dali would stage expensive surrealist tableaux in a castle with transvestites, dwarfs, poseurs, bon vivants etc, and Amanda got to be an integral part of that scene. Dali then chose her as his muse. Amanda got introduced to Bryan ferry, David Bowie and other luminaires, recorded a couple of dancey tracks such as la Bagarre, and finally in 1977 had a paneuropean smash with Tomorrow, her first disco cut. She then became a celebrity on Italian and french tv which she still is today. She now an incredibly well preserved 64, looking sexy as ever, still in recording business. There's a 2-cd comp now out in Germany plus a new 12" copacabana. Her concerts at The Queen in Paris are huge sellout affaires. AND Amanda is a real woman as can be seen in photos taken of her as a child and a teenager. As for those legs - they're long, very very long :-)
